Bike will not start. Not sure what's up. HELP!!!

Hello all, and thanks for your time. I am far from a mechanic. I am a Paramedic. I was a member on here awhile back, but had to re-register. Anyway, when I turn the key on and the run switch on, my headlights nor fog lights come on. However, the gauges light up and do their normal thing. When I pull the clutch in and press to start, all I hear is a click right by the battery. I heard it because I had the seat off. Battery has 13.7 volts. Any ideas?

Not sure but sounds like it might be Starter relay, headlight are switched off during starting by the starter relay so it can divert full power to starter. So I would be checking it out first

First make sure your battery connections are clean and tight, and if that does not do it , the problem is probably the starter relay. You can get to it by removing the right side cover. Just pull it out and plug in a new one. I always put some dielectric grease on the connectors whenever I replace an electrical part. I keep a spare relay in the tool kit, you don't want to be stranded out in the middle of nowhere because of a ten dollar part that is easily replaced.

Thanks ya'll!!! I will try that. I sure do appreciate it. I was reading about the issues with the ignition, and thought that may be it. Hopefully it's just the starter relay. Will pick one up tomorrow. Again, Thank you!

I've been through this c**p before, and I know how frustrating it is.

I changed the starter relay initially and that seemed to help temporarily, but it got to the point where it just wouldn't start even tho my battery was registering 12.8 (off). This went on for months and I almost killed the battery but trying to start it too much and I got all kinds of strange noises coming from my starter and stuff under there.

I then checked the voltage readings at starter button and it was about 11.4v. so I imagine it was even lower at the starter, too much resistance to power cleanly power the starter.

In the end, after checking conections, cleaning, tightening etc etc. I went ahead and installed a second relay coming directly from the battery and bypassing the ignition switch.

This was a miracle fix which i highly recommend. Honker sent me the link in one of my threads if you are interested in this.

I'm also no mechanic, but a little handy with things.

Thanks. I will figure out how to find that thread and get it done. So while I am at the dealer, I should get 2 starter relays then, correct?

Have a read, and see if this applies to your situation. I just used a single length of wire ,24 strands, and cut it. It is easy to do, just need to go for it as I did.

After checking the battery connections and ground, I owuld look at the ignition switch.
Do a search on here regardiing an Eastern Beaver kit.
