Been away on tour, rocket wont start?? Any tips?

Hi Dale,

As you've found out, all the suggestions of kill switch, clutch lever in, and sidestand switch are red herrings because the starter solenoid would not click if they were the fault.

Try removing and cleaning with sandpaper the two starter motor cable connections. One is at the bottom of the starter motor and the other at the top. Both are accessible if you get under the bike and easier if you don't have a cat. The starter motor threaded connections are copper but the cable terminals can corrode as they are covered by rubber boots that can retain moisture.

P.S. Still got the red tins on.

Have you checked all fuses? I know you said the lights worked. As silly as it seems. I blew my headlamp fuse and the bike will not start. It would cycle like everything is normal though. Their may be other fuses that cause the same thing? it appears some fuses are linked to the ignition/starting system. For you other Captains out there, if you didn't know this...carry some extra assorted fuses with you.

sorry was out in Dubai this past 2 weeks! (no rockets there!). Will try this weekend, will let you all know how she fares....

OK, here we are. I think it may be the battery, bought a new one, only trouble is that it shows the engine management light now and wont do squat. All the lights etc come on as normal plus the orange on for engine management which i am informed happens when the alarm/immobiliser needs reseting. I have a 04 model with a datatool 3 system on it. Only trouble is now i cannot find the in-line fuse to assit with the reset drill for the love of buddha. Any suggestions?

cheers for all the help, after finally giving up the ghost and a expensive transport to the shop, it was the immobiliser pcb in the end that had went, a mere 270 notes (sterling) to fix (ouch).
