Auxiliary fuel tank

LMAO...I would bet that your tank is full when you finish filling up. I usually put 4 to 4.5 gals in on a normal fill up unless I run it completely dry in which case mine takes 6.18 gallons. If I have to put in 6.18 gallons it means that I coasted into the pump with a dead bike...don't ask me how I know

I know how you know...... Twice :banghead: :banghead:

Now on a long trip I take this in the saddle bag:

IMG_6413.JPG It's 1.5 liter - the rubber gasket on the main cap swolle up & popped out (inside) so I threw it away, the cap is made of a hard rubber so if you run it down tight it seals off completely...... $16 at Academy - carried it for a couple of months one time with no leaks/spills, just a little evaporation :D

The idea of carrying a gallon or two extra really makes sense no matter what style of riding your doing. Congested areas usually aren't where I buy my gas. A real pain in the as* getting around traffic to the pumps.

My complaint is the Rocket 3T really is difficult to fill the last 2 gallons. The fuel splashes back. Any solutions to this issue? 6 gallons is a hell of a lot better than the 4 1/2 gallons I end up with!

Can't you "feather" the pump lever when getting close to the top, to keep it from splashing? That's what I do & fill to the top o_O

Perhaps a flexible bladder that could be placed in a saddle bag would be ideal. Could be removed; a simple pump could be used to transfer to main tank using a single line as no venting is needed because it would collapse as fuel is consumed. Search flexible fuel and liquid containers for possible options.

If you have to stop to transfer gas why not just stop a get gas. I've never would be concerned about extra fuel unless I was going through no man's land where I couldn't find fuel. I carry a lot of crazy "what if" things when I ride, but extra fuel will not be one of them.

I've found myself out in a long stretch of road that gas stations were far between. I wasn't expecting the stretch as I had not ever been in that area before..................... Ok, I'ma dumb@ss!

I've never had a problem filling my tank and getting it full unless I'm trying to get it all the way to the neck. Last 2 gallons...don't understand that...

Most who fit aux tanks don't stop to fill up, they do it on the fly...at least the ones I've seen anyway. All of the ones I've seen were on bikes set up for long distance rides against the clock. If you can eliminate every other fuel stop that you would normally have to make on a 3,000 mile ride you can take hours off your time. This would be the only reason I see to fit one...and the reason I want one

A lot of places I ride are remote and gas stations are scarce or close after dark like Boogaloo said. I like this idea because it would make the newly available space above the motor and the air box functional. I do stop more often than I used to but there is not always fuel where I stop. That and the idea seems fun to me.

You don't need no excuses Stormin Norman. Just rock that auxie tank baby!
But if you do come up with something, PLEASE let @aviation1972 know what you did! I think he wants one as bad as you do :D
