On the ride back from the Keys I noticed I had aquired cruise control without doing a thing. It got progressively worse on the trip back. I had to physically twist the throttle back to close.
Anyways I kinda figured it just needed a good cable lubing so I disassembled the cables & let the lube do it's thing overnight. The Valk had the same symptoms a while back & lubing did the trick. Anyways no dice, after reassembly the throttle sticks as bad as ever.
My question is...is this a common thing with the R3 throttle cables? Anyone else have this problem? Seems a bit new for cable problems. 17,000 miles, garage kept.

I had a cramp in my right hand and it twisted the throttle open until I realized it was a ****ed cramp! OLD AGE IS NOT FOR SISSY'S!

Well, I finally found the problem & fixed it.
Turns out the throttle cables are just fine, the problem was the throttle grip sleeve! I had retrofit Valkyrie bars for a better ride position & added Kury Iso grips. Seems the combination of maybe a slightly different bar diameter combined with the severe cutting down of the stock Triumph throttle sleeve that I had to do to fit the Honda part # grips caused a warp of the sleeve. The sleeve had oblonged to the point of severe drag on the bar.
Anyways the solution was a new Valkyrie throttle sleeve which fit the Triumph perfectly & requires no chopping up to fit the Kury grip I have. Yea!!

Now I can put some miles on the brand new Rick Mayer seat I got in last week!!! 8)

Another Triumph problem solved which was caused by non-triumph parts

And solved with non-Triumph parts.

Actually the grinding down of the throttle sleeve to fit the Kury grip was the culprit. If I would have fitted a proper RH Triumph Kury grip instead of the "universal" the problem would have never happened.

Live & learn! :?
