2008 Rocket 3 Touring & ignition switch

2008 R3T with lots of changes
Yesterday I took my P.O.S. R3T to work and at 2 locations where I was going very slow
(coming to a stop light or waiting to turn left) the bike stalled. I pulled in the clutch and it
started right up. Does this sound like an impending ignition switch failure? I've revently
used TuneECU to tune the bike and it may still be slightly rich (25-26 MPG).
If it were ignition failure, wouldn't it just go and not start right up again?
I have 13,300 miles on this two wheeled abortion of a motorcycle. Can a dealer effectively
check an ignition switch to see if it's starting to fail? or do you just wait to be standing by
the side of the road?

THOUGHT: isn't it ironic that one of the most unreliable motorcycles in current production
doesn't have hazard lights? How pompus these British are to not include them
considering how often these bikes are parked on the roadside.
 

I'd sell that POS, no better yet, just give it away.
Harleys are much more dependable, more reliable, never have ANY problems,
heck they're practically bulletproof compared to that abortion you got there.
Just ship it to me, I'll pay the shipping charge for you,
and start shopping for a "REAL" motorcycle....

If you don't rate the bike, just get rid of it.
 
Two year warranty expires next March and so does my patience with a bike
that seems to be more novelty than serious long haul touring bike. As for
Xhdskip: PUT YOUR MONEY WHERE YOUR MOUTH IS. If money wasn't a
concern for me, this bike would already be down the road and I'd be looking
for something else. I'm going to my dealer next week to test ride the new
1600 BMW touring rig.

You could give Skip your Rocket, buy another one and you will have spent less than the price of the 1600.
You can't beat the beemers for reliability, but they're very sterile.
Triumphs have personality.
Sounds like it's loading up on idle and stalling.
Do the gauges flicker or are there other signs that might make you think it's electrical?
Could be better than it seems.
You've just got the "f**k it's" .
Odds are good that when you find the bike you really want, you'll look back fondly on your Rocket.
In the mean time, don't be too hard on us that like ours.
 

Have to agree with this. My R3T makes decent power and the A/F ratio runs right around 13:1. I easily get 32-35 MPG and can get 40+ if I take it real easy. Unless you're flogging the hell out of it, those numbers indicate its running way too rich.
 
i get 35-38 on my r3t and i have had no major problems with mine and i have over 37000 miles on mine
 
The tune I'm running was from somebody with a very similiar setup. He has TORS, 3 K&N's and GiPRO. I have D&D's and drop in K&N.
On the highway, I'm getting about 32-34 MPG, if I mix it up with some city riding, the # goes down. A fouled plug may be possible.
I'm not seeing blinking dash lights on the gauges which is good. I've looked at the FTRIMS table and adjusted the numbers a little. I
thought that being that the other guys bike was tuned on a dyno and was setup so close to mine, I thought it might be pretty close.
I have a tall Clearview shield, Tourpack style trunk and I'm a big guy. So, what's the best way to adjust a TuneECU file in the lower
regions i.e. (in town, stop & go and slow speeds)? Maybe it's ok at HWY speeds and just a little too rich down low.
Yes, the BMW is crazy expensive, my dealer is a BMW & Triumph dealer, and their a pretty good dealer. So I have to look.

There is a pretty big difference between the triple filters and your stock intake with a K & N.
I would suggest downloading a different tune or doing the triple filter mod.
Maybe, if you will be selling the bike, loading a tune that's designed for your set-up makes more sense.
Chin up man, there is plenty of good info. and lots of helpful people here.
 
Tors are a very different set up than D&D's. That tune likely won't be a good drop in match.Best bet is get to a dyno & do it right.
