Sportster S (looking to get a Rocket 3)
Looking for a 2022/23 Rocket. Not sure wether to go with the R or GT, I'd appreciate your input guys and gals.
Don't do lots of miles 2k a year normally. I don't tour and rarely take the Mrs on the back. To me that's an R all day long. However, you get more for your money with the GT and the pegs can be moved to mids. It would be nice to have the grab rail when my wife actually does come out on it. Can the grab rail come off when not used, without leaving a gap? The GT also has reduced reach bars and a small screen are these beneficial, as I'm only 5'7". Also, I've seen quick shifters fitted and reviewed; they're very well liked. Any idea on cost fitted please?

With your challenged inseam measurement the mid controls would be a plus. I moved my pegs to the furthest back position to take pressure off my knees (which have all the integrity of eggshells). The bar reach is good and once the suspension is dialed in the bike is quite comfy on the road Not sure what you mean by "grab rails" as my 2023 has a backrest but no "rails" per se. Mine came with a taller shield installed (see below) (I have the original flyscreen too), and it does a good job of blocking wind from my chest and no buffeting on the helmet. The backrest can be removed but to my knowledge no one has an infill for the two grooves in the tail section (i.e. gap). You might be better off getting the R version and then swapping handlebars and risers out for the GT bars and risers. I did a handlebar swap on my '05 Rocket from standard bars to classic with 1.5" risers that moved the bars up and back 3/4" toward the seat. Very relaxed riding position on that bike. The GT is very similar to that riding position. No idea what the quickshifter will cost you, I don't have that on this bike, although I do have it on my Speed Triple RS. It makes more sense to me on the RS than this bike, but to each their own.

All the bits and pieces you are interested in swapping around or adding on, to either basic models are available to review with RRP prices on the Triumph website.
Just go to the configurator on either the R or the GT and go to the accessories section.
Everything is there.....for example the quickshifter is £540 + fitting....(ouch 😉 ....prices of these things are negotiable of course if you're buying the bike new, so best do homework before deciding to sign on the line)

Thanks Atomsplitter. You are of course right. I meant back rest! Sounds like it's still the 'R'. You're right, the quick shifter may be overkill for the bike. It's easy to get carried away on Youtube. Just been watching the TTS super charged version lol.

Thanks for our input.

Good shout Jagster. I'll get configuring to see the prices. Although, I'm not in the market for a new one, as I don't like the look of the blacked out Storms, not to mention the prices.

Welcome. You can check out Richard's video on gaining 30HP from just removing the factory throttle restrictions.

As to the Mrs., i learned this the hard way: If she says she’ll never ride on the back of a potential bike purchase, her first question when you bring the new R home will be, “But where do i sit?” You know better.

As to the rest, personal preference.

Am 5’8”, long arms, and find the GT bars perfect, and GT pegs in middle mount hole are fine, but may even push them forward a hole; none too extended.

And the quick-shifter. I don’t doubt it’s fun, but i don’t feel any want for it. The clutch is light, trans is really slick, and i’ve gobs and gobs of torque making it all so forgiving. I’d read of the shifter, too, before buying the bike and assumed i “needed” it. Now dropped that notion.

Windscreen. I put the middle size powerbronze screen on, and at my height the wind catches my helmet but no chest pressure. Shoei gt air 2 cuts it fine, don’t notice it but to turn my head. Didn’t bother to run the factory screen before swapped it; it’s maybe a quarter the size?

Anyway, as was pointed out, you could buy either R or GT, and for some money, mix/match to your heart’s content.
