Rocket 3 Storm R - how to check oil level?

Thanks to everyone for your input. I will continue the process and keep you updated.
The reason I’m confused is that my dealer told me to check the oil when I come back from a ride: park the bike, wait 5 minutes, and then check the level. When I do it this way, the oil level is higher as the MAX mark.
I don’t understand why they give this advice, as it does not match the official manual procedure. He said that checking the oil level on this bike is quite complicated and that this method works better.
He also confirmed that he has never seen a Rocket 3 consume oil, and for this reason he told me not to worry — as long as I follow the regular service intervals, I should not have any issues.
However, I’m not fully convinced, because if there is ever a problem with the engine due to low oil, it would be my responsibility.
Thanks again for your help.

I have not heard of anyone on this forum checking it the way that dealer recommends. We go by the engineers that built the darn things. And, as far as them saying that they've never seen a Rocket consume oil- well, mine does and there are a few other owners on this site who have that issue. Mine probably due to the guy who bought it not breaking it in properly. No matter, first you have to fill it to see if it uses oil and, chances are, yours does not. Trust the manual and the many people here who actually own one of these bikes. In the future, I'd go to another dealer for anything else or, better yet, just start doing your own work.

Hey, are there any threads about alternate motor oils? I’ve tried search and can’t find any but can’t believe that hasn’t been discussed at length. Searching myself I’ve found 4T oils by Motul, Castrol Power1, Ultra1Plus, LiquiMoly, Mobil1, Valvoline and more. Triumph oil is ester based. The only other oil I’ve seen that advertises that is Motul and it’s reflected in the price. I saw somewhere that Triumph recommended Castrol, probably before they came out with their own brand (English to English). I wonder if Motul is making Triumph oil.

I suppose they want you to check it while its cold because the oil hasn't expanded from the heat yet and its important to have enough in there while its cold for good lubrication. I'd imagine the tank has enough space to accomidate the expansion once it does get to operating temperature.

As journeyman stated some of these bikes seem to eat oil with mine also being one of them and its a brand new bike and was broke in correctly. It could just be the nature of the beast. I would probably go to another dealer if you ever need to have service performed. Good luck with your oil endeavor and keep updating.

Just checked mine. Cold, run for a minute, check on side stand

Hey @pabcri - I wouldn't think just 100 ml (3.4 ounches) would make much difference. Assuming you are doing the correct procedure, if it were me, I would wait and read it again (after cold and then proper warmup), then add enough oil to get it in the middle of the suggested range. The shop is doing it wrong and that is what is making you hesitant to add enough oil. Also, someone said 5 minute wait, but my manual (and the one you posted) said 3 minutes after the 60 - 90 second warmup (no throttle).
Yep. That’s my process also.
Cold, on level ground, kickstand, 90sec on, 3mins off, check oil. Add oil, (if needed,) accordingly. MIN-MAX is about a quart. I usually keep mine at about 1/2-3/4.
