Replacing grips, a little too late to ask for a how to?

Here's what worked for me...

@Old N' Grumpy Does your throttle side have a bunch of play in it?

Mine came with Avons, I have done some looking around at the throttle cables etc. and can't find any slack but there is about 1/2 or 3/4 inch rotation (on the circumference of the grips ) between being off the throttle and when the travel stops... Not sure if I'm explaining this well...

If i roll ALL the way off, until the grip actually stops, its takes a 1/2 inch of rotation until the throttle seems to engage.

There are a couple little set screws I thought might be slipping but like I said can't find the culprit. Do yours behave the same way?

The set screws on the throttle side are just there for cosmetic look. Sounds like you may need to adjust the throttle cables. As Warp9 has mentioned in many post and I follow his advice you can only adjust the cables correctly by making the adjustment at the throttle body.:thumbsup::thumbsup::thumbsup::thumbsup::thumbsup: Have no issues at all with the Avon grips.

Ok cool, indeed i did not inspect the cables near the body only lazily looked around the controls thinking it was the grips. Good looking out!

I have had no problems with mine from the get go...do what @sonny says and you should be golden.

ISO 6236 is the correct part number

Dennis Kirk has four sets. Just enter part no. 59-00845. $59.99 dollars. Very well made. (Avon)

I finally found the Avons at the Dennis Kirk site, I think they are the only ones using that part number. The funny thing is they also offer a set of the black ISO grips (PN 6337) that they say is a direct fit. This after finding a black set on JP cycles PN 6344 that also say its a direct fit. Both sites claim the grips are 7/8.

I think I'll just order both the avons and the iso from Dennis. looks like they have a good return policy. I really wanted the iso because I've had them before and I like the throttle boss that can be ordered with them.

The two adjusters by the throttle tube do adjust, but they’re for fine adjustment.

Gross adjustment is done at the Throttle Body.

Don’t overtighten the return line or it will feel all fubar, you want it a little loose with the opening cable tighter than closing.
