Nobody buys a Sportster for power. It has a major plus on it's side though. Parts are DIRT cheap - in the US anyway. It is simply Harley's way of catching market share and getting them onto larger beasts.
Before a very good friend of mine in the UK passed away we were working on a scheme. He worked at a HD franchise. They took in at least 2 883's a week in part exchange. They lose a massive amount in value - and moving them out of the back room was such a priority we could have them at cost.
The plan was to take the 883R's - "accidentally" fit them with 1200 pots "somewhere else" and sell them here as lightly modified 883's. Could easily have made a grand per bike.
Nice little bike to trundle on. And if you "Buell" the engine - It's a lot of fun in the twisties - better if it's a Buell chassis of course.
The Bolt hasn't made a dent in Harley sales - and won't. It never ceases to astound me that people don't buy Harleys as motorcycles - they buy them to be admitted to the Harley lifestyle. The Bolt could be the cruiser equivalent of a Ferrari - it wouldn't make any difference - the Sporty would still outsell it.
