I have been trying for months to get Deb used to riding on two wheels and there seems to be some kind of mental block there . . not that she's uncoordinated or anything. She's a good driver and very smart . . she just doesnt seem to remember all the parts of riding at once. You know . . the feet down part with the brakes and clutch part. I actually went and bought her a 250 rebel to practice a little more on . . you know, the confidence thing, but that hasnt really worked either. Although it's easier to catch before the fall when things dont quite come together. She really wants to ride but . . . kinda scares me sometimes. I've talked to Flip about a sidecar for the Speedy and have given up that idea (I used to have a 250 Jawa with a hack) and am now thinking trike. Anyone have a suggestion on something affordable? I think that if I took out the feet down part, she could get it. She used to do fine on our old Honda ATV three wheelers . . .

Hi Dave, a good question on the trike. Unfortunately, they cost a lot, of course I am speaking as a former Gold Wing owner, whether it's Honda or Hardley. Finding a used one can take some doing. Hual's Trikes on Hwy 29N, about 3 miles south of Cantonment, had some out front when I left, they deal in new ones and used/trade ins.

There are a few other choices but they look kind of chintzy, just about any cycle magazine will have advertisements for them in the back and the cost would/should be lower than getting a full blown one as mentioned in the first paragraph.

Hopefully you'll find her one, in the right price range, I wish my wife would have been more "accepting" of the back seat of the ride, but she pretty much let me get what I wanted for myself to ride so she's been a keeper there. Since she doesn't ride ("or passenger"???) it was the main reason I went ahead and traded the Wing in for the Mustang.

Good luck,
Dennis
...still living in a tent, at least the food is good.

Dave,
If you can get up to Southern Powersports in Chattanooga, they have a large collection of Trikes for sale, that's where I got my wife's trike at. There is an alternative to the trike, it's called a "Voyager" kit, that may be a brand name. It is the rear wheels and fenders of a trike but it keeps the drive wheel in place on the bike, sort of like outriggers or training wheels. No permenant additions to the bike, either. If you aren't paying attention and you see one, most people just assume that it is a trike. They make them for various kinds of bikes a popular model is the Honda Shadow, I've seen several of those.

Have you seen one of these?
Piaggio USA

Wow . . thats different.

The speedmaster only has about 650 miles on it so I would like to keep it or at the least, find someone to trade. I did find another type of a bolt on trike kit called Insta-Trike. They make one for the Speedmaster 800, so I've emailed them about the 900. Voyager doesnt make one for any triumph. I'm going to keep on looking and see what I can come up with so if anyone runs across anything else . . keep em coming. I appreciate it.

There is a place by me were the do there own conversins, they have goldwings out front mostly but if you wanted I could inquire more and mabye get you a contact. I have see there work and it is very good and clean looking.

I'd appreciate that. Thanks.

I've heard that with most trike conversions that the Speedmaster just doesnt make enough torque to make it work well. The only conversions that are recommended are the bolt on "training wheel" types like the Voyager or the Insta Trike. Dunno though . . I'm still asking questions at most places . . .

Wow boogerdave, I feel for you and Deb. I have those same fears with my lady taking up the sport. I'm afraid the same problem will come about and she is not all that coordinated. However I'm thinking of a duel sport 250 so falling in the soft dirt wont hurt so much. I'm sure after a few times though something will happen. In my instance another bike for me I'm afraid.

If the situation ends up where the you will be letting the Speedy go, give me a shout. The wifey is wanting one. What color is your's?
