From the aluminum rims of my R3T?... I kept it in a heated garage all winter but still got some pitting on the rims.. gah..

Then there is the access problem to the rear rim.. its a PITA.

Any ideas?

My rims pitted over the winter too. Never rode on wet roads with salt over the winter season. Pitting seems to be real bad. Tried cleaning it up with just Honda Polish. Not much improvement. :(

The only real cure is to remove the wheels and rotors, sand to remove the machine tooling marks, then polish progressively finer. There is some kind of treatment to the surface...not a clear and not quite anodized. Gotta' remove all that before you can polish. Otherwise, you're left with the powdercoat route. Cadfather will give you the full scoop on the process. It's a job, but well worth it, if you like the shine of polished metal.

My wheels did not have any type of coating..I think they stopped that just before the 06's came out...Did they start it up again?

It's not a "clear coat" type of coating, more of a chemical surface treatment, like bluing on a gun.

Here's a pic my rear wheel from this afternoon. I don't personally see any pitting. Looks fine to me. Can you be more descriptive of just what the problem is?

I think the r3t rims are not very maintenance friendly. The way they are cast its like they are designed to pit and rust.
O.
