What tyres are you running?

Hp loss

I just didn't have the time to get to Art to do a "before" dyno pull,as I wanted the MT off my bike ASAP and the switch was done during the first few days that I got on the road this season.. As for sidestepping... I don't think so, guys, nor do I think that results on a dyno vs results on the road are nearly the same thing. I've ridden all of my darklsided bikes, both before and after switching tire types, running against and with the same bikes of my friends [V-Rods, Beemers, Runes, Harleys and Victories (with stage 1 cam kits)] and I'm telling you that there was no appreciable difference in performance detected. Believe what you will...

Art, you are still welcome to dyno my ride whenever I can get it down to 'ya and you have the time/inclination.. I know what the limited performance mods on my setup add over and above a stock bike and I have nothing at all to hide, prove or to be regretful of. I like how my bike handles and have easily accepted the tradeoffs involved. I ride on the road, not on a closed circuit or drag strip. I am neither interested in "riding on the edge of the envelope" nor pulling every last ounce of oomph possible out of this engine as some others, understandably, are. Toi each their own... this is so much like the helmet issue conversations, i.e., which is the "best", half, 3/4, full or none. The answer is; whichever you choose is right for you.
HEY PHIL we can hook up this weekend its going to be nice and warm and some cruisin sounds good I still want to ride your machine and I think yours is probably the best tire choice 225 you know we are in the HP business so 20hp means a lot to our customers  we are always getting questioned on the CT subject it is a real area contention amongst the ROCKET owners so somehow well have to get someone to do a comparison test other than US :D well be accused of cheating:eek:  :p

A 20 HP loss is about a 15% reduction from what my machine should be putting out to the rear tire. I'm game to get at the truth. My money says there is no more than a 5-7 HP loss if there's any there's any at all(some loss would be logical). Regardless, I'll be happy to add to the body of knowledge.

Warp, I forgot that you had a bad get off.:( Hope you're back in the saddle ASAP with a minimum of pain and suffering. Man, that reallllly sucks... I know - been there, done that!

YES its a lot of HP to lose on a MOTORCYCLE maybe we can get someone to do the test? YOURS would have been perfect:( NOW who can we get to do it ? is there anyone going to switch that will do a honest test ? a CT with 27 psi 245 we cant do it :D ?????

Are you guys talking about the old wives tale that CT's rob HP? 'cause thats nonsense. As fictional as that odd comment that dragster tires grow and narrow for traction ... what a hoot. You have to be careful what you say on here, someone will believe it.

WE lost the perfect opportunity to compare before and after even though I thought it was arranged :confused:so maybe someone else on the site would or could if they are making the tire change It is amusing that riders will spend thousands of dollars on mods to make 20HP and then mount a CAR TIRE only to lose it all  and thats saving money  we see major losses on the sports bikes just by changing makes of tires of the same size 8 hp+

Alright, guys. I am a giant *****. I don't like riding in the rain, so I avoid it at all costs. The only two days available to get my ride down to Art's, right after I returned from 2 weeks of R&R in the Caribbean, I had to get her titled, registered, insured and inspected. The next two days it rained. The following Monday I had to take care of "stuff" intruding into my "bike time" due to having a somewhat normal life that isn't centered on mechanics. Because of the aforementioned vacation, which commenced March 13, my new beastie had not seen the light of day since I rec'd her in mid-December and I had only ridden her up and down my cul-de-sac a few times before she was layed up, safely ensconced in my furnace room for the winter. The battery was dead when i got her and I wanted sufficient time on the tender to get her reasonbly re-charged. I also wanted some "me time" in the saddle to bond with my mistress before inflicting the rigors of a dyno run on her. The following Tuesday after my return she was scheduled to go to the dealer for some add-ons to be installed, but the CT had not come in on time and I had to stick around to find out when it would arrive from the distributor and when/where I could pick it up. Two days later I actually went and picked up the tire at my tire shop and drove it over to the Triumph dealership for installation while they were hanging some other goodies on her. I have a small garage, inadequate workspace and not enough tools to do alot of this for myself. I don't know the difference between a box-end wrench and a box lunch. Art just plain scare the piss outta' me... are these enough excuses, guys?:D I am so ashamed...

Seriously, though, y'all know what a stocker produces to the rear wheel, so with only the Mad Dog slip-ons and an underseat K&N filter affecting engine performane it should be pretty easy to interpolate the difference in HP and torque between my Mulberry Mistress shod with car meat and a bone stock standard model. I have gathered that you guys are waaaay smart enough to handle that!;) (we can only hope and pray)

I need phone or cell numbers for you Art and Kelly!

Is wider better?

Traction is achieved by making the circumference larger. Thus keeping the tire cooler so it will not melt. Thus creating traction. The wide patch is just for getting great grip off the line. It's quickly lost if the tire gets too hot. So, the tire is designed to get taller and narrower.
Again….I’m just saying that the contact patch is not the only consideration for traction. Dragster tires are 17.5” wide. Why not 30” if contact is the only criteria? Now you wouldn't tell me that a wider tire will do better on wets roads would ya?
