What synthetic Oil to use?

There are a lot of synthetic oils to use. I have a 2011 Rocket Touring and want to change the oil before less frequent winter rides. I've never owned a bike with a sump or wet clutch. I hear a lot good about Amsoil and don't care about the cost, i just want to protect my investment with the best oil available. Is a 20w50 to Heavy?

There has been plenty of discussion on this topic and generally all syn oils are considered acceptable, for me it's Motul 7100 10w/40 and may be 15w/50 for long hot rides in summer time here in Queensland Aaustralia.

I have gone back to using Mobil 1 4T that you can pick up at AutoZone. 10w/40 is what I use.

While you're there at AutoZone, pick up a Mobil 1 M1-108 oil filter. It's a direct replacement for the OEM filter.

News flash! Use the Mobile One M1-110 oil filter. It holds more oil, will not interfere with the front tire and the factory chrome cover fits it just fine.

I also use M1 4T. It's a good oil with a robust additive package made to stand up to transmission gear shear. Transmission gear shear is the big battle when it comes to engine oil. If we only had the engine to worry about, picking an oil would be easy.

Amsoil is a good product, but harder to find and pricey. Most Amsoil dealers will ship oil to you. I would rather be able to just go down to the local automotive parts store and buy Mobile One. I also use full synthetic M1 75/90 gear oil for the final drive. Good stuff!

If you ever want to check out a particular oil product, go to the site "Bob is the oil guy." Lot's of engineer types hang out there. LOTS of oil information.

Mobil 1 racing 4T 15W-50 syn. I've been using this since 2005.
I heard Amsoil has a high phoshorus level.....

Joe Gibbs Racing oil HR50 (15w50 synthetic) was the last case heavy in anti wear inhibitors. (High zinc formulation) The case I just ordered is HD50 15w50 fully synthetic (High zinc formulation) with friction modifiers that are wet clutch compatible. Made especially to try to keep Harley Davidson race bikes running whether air or water cooled. I discussed oils with Lake Speed Jr. from Driven racing oil company. I was looking for something with a little more special additives in it for the Millennium Falcon. Most likely will use it in Gracie after the Stage 1 upgrade.

I'm not seeing approval for M/C wet clutch applications. Or transmission gear shear. Those are the two factors that narrow the choice for oil on any M/C engine that has the transmission gears and the wet clutch in the same sump as the engine oil. If it was not for those two factors we could use any good automotive fully synthetic oil. Here is the site info. i was using castrol 10/50 power rs racing 4t oil in my r3t never had a problem
