What synthetic Oil to use?

I recently put regular synthetic Mobil1 15-50 in mine, and am maybe noticing an occasional missed shift. If it seems to persist (not just carelessness), I may change it out.

I cannot imagine the oil is the problem but change it out and report back to us. Maybe we'll all learn something! Just curious...why don't you use the Mobil1 4T made specifically for wet clutches?

Because that was all Walmart had at the time and my bud the MC mechanic said it would be OK. Changed out to Castrol Racing 4T and haven't noticed the problem anymore, but not sure if that was it, it was very occasional, and seems to be gone.

I asked Bob Carpenter which oil he is using now. Here is the response!
Amsoil Diesel Marine Oil (15W-40). Great oil!

Just a thought, I had to add some slack to my clutch cable twice, first time I heard it slipping when hitting peak torque on the power band, second time I was watching and caught it.

Didn't think too much about it at the time, but when it happened again, I wondered if clutch slippage lead to wear lead to less slack in cable? (due to using reg Mobil 1)

Here is my two bits... I used Mobil 1 (Auto) in my Honda Valkyrie a few years back. The clutch slipped bad! It was definitely the oil. No Problems since swapping out. Using Mobil 1 4T in all my bikes now with no problems.

Since changing to the castrol Semi synthetic I've done 4000km,s and to my surprise the gear changes seem to be smoother .no clunky changes except for first gear ?

Amsoil in all my bikes, Friend of mine took his Harley in for service to find out that they just put it back together with out changing anything. No wear! Sold me on amsoil.:)

what oil filter

Before you decide to change the oil I would suggest to read about the oil filter.
There is a great article comparing many of the filters.

And welcome to the sight.
