What RPMS do you run while cruising? Most Fuel Efficient?

BINGO @rabbit and @barbagris !

I find on big rides anything under 140 is all about the same, but after that it sucks big times:thumbsup:

I have always found that there is a JUMP in consumption somewhere between 3000 and 3500 rpms. Last week I caught the jump by using earplugs (with gunfire filters) - 3200 the engine note changes appreciable - and on very light throttle. There is another close to 4000.

Looks like our speedos (speedometers, not swimming trunks) read a bit low, which is odd...most motorcycle speedos read high....those of us going to the 55 aspect ratio rear tire should be careful not to get caught speeding! Not that any of us would ever speed on this bike...

That is just based on the change due to 55 profile tires. The black text std reading is just theoretical due to gearing and tire circumference, not guaranteed accuracy of stock speedometer. I.e. your speedo may be wrong but with Exedra tires it it now reading +3.7% as long as you have not already modified speedo reading with a modified tune download.

Nice work, M8!
I assume these are all in 5th gear?
Were professional instruments, ie. radar, digital tach or from looking at your bike speedo and tach while riding?
Nonetheless, thanks - and also for the mph conversions!

That is some impressive stuff. I would not even no where to start on figuring all that out. I can say that the Rocket gets better gas mileage than the Harley. Every modification I made to the Fatboy drastically cut the gas mileage. Now I have a bike that requires premium gas, sucks gas like a pig and is not as quick or as responsive as the Rocket X. Did not even think about gas mileage when I bought the Rocket. Did not care and still do not. The way I take off at times on the Rocket is a clear example of lack of concern. I do enjoy the ride and that is priceless. :):):):):)

*Red text are Exedra 55 figures
Yes, 5th gear but all figures calculated and based on Triumph published final gear ratios for Std and Classic rocket from page 104 of online .pdf manual posted by members on R3Owners.
I then used the final gear ratio/RPM @65 Mph table I posted earlier (see #27) to calculate an averaged ratio:RPM factor for the Exedra 55 tire of 1.0:827.5 and with R3Std/Classic Final Drive Ratio of 2.846:1 gave RPM @65Mph = 2355 RPM.
Therefore 1.0 Mph = 36.2308 RPM
65Mph x 1.6093 = 104.60 Kph.
Therefore 1.0 Kph = 22.5143 RPM

As stated in data from 240/50-R16 vs 240/55-R16 Tire Comparison - Tire Size Calculator | Tacoma World the difference in circumference between stock tire and Exedra is +3.7%.
2355 RPM / 96.3 x100 = 2445 RPM @65Mph with stock tire.
2355 RPM @ 65Mph (104.60Kph) = 22.5143 RPM/Kph with Bridgestone Exedra EA1R 240/55-16
2445 RPM @ 65Mph (104.60Kph) = 23.3793 RPM/Kph with Stock tire AVON COBRA AV72 240/50-16 (84V)

For the stock tire calculations strictly speaking I should have used the -3.6% figure as the tires are slightly off round due to weight of bike/rider.
Revolutions per mile (km) 792.5 (492.43) 764.13 (474.81) -28.37 (-17.63) -3.6%
which would give 2355 RPM / 96.4 x100 = 2443 RPM @65Mph = 23.3556 RPM/Kph with stock tire. This would reduce just 2.37 RPM at 100Kph to 2336 RPM from 2338 RPM or a bee's *****and less than the averaging effect of the gear ratio factoring I used.:D

Are you sure you really retired from statistics...my head hurts:thumbsdown:, don't have Avon cobras on that list by any chance:cautious:

Yeah Avon is the stock tire size AVON COBRA AV72 240/50-16 (84V)
and compared with Bridgestone Exedra EA1R 240/55-16
