What happened here?

while riding the freeway i was not paying attention and was close to missing my exit i had nothing behind me so i laid down on the brakes i was still going to fast so i squeezed harder and i think the front tire was sliding so it wasn't to long till i though this is not smart :eek:and decided to go to the next exit.
i think that with the dual discs that u can slide the front tire.

Even with ABS braking should be a smooth action GENTLY but firmly ,not a savage grab ,with my big paws most of my "normal" non emergency braking is with two fingers on the lever,

my braking with the clutch lever is directly proportionate to the pucker of my a$$:D

As Scot said. If he got on the rear and stayed on it, even locked up he may have done better.

I have hit the rear hard and locked up at 75. The rear got wobbly and I applied as much front as possible when the weight shifted to the front.

I did not hit the lady who was cut off by a jerk, who then slammed on his brakes because his mistimed his hole shot.

A lot of mistakes made by the rider in this video. Lane position, paying attention to traffic, and braking techniques. Luckily he had safety gear on. It is amazing that so many people just go on out and buy a bike and not take a safety course. So many accidents could be avoided just by spending a little bit of money and time learning how to ride safely. It is **** shame.

Me thinks he grabbed rear brake only, locking it up.
He also attempted to veer left, which sent the skidding rear wheel out to his right, counterclockwise.
When he let off the rear brake, heading for the Jersey barrier, the tire regained traction.
This equals HIGH SIDE!
ABS likely would have helped in this case, as it allows better lateral transition while braking.
I personally prefer to ride in the right wheel track in the leftmost lane to gain more maneuver room to the left, if needed.

This guy just messed up. Just got back from S Cal and saw examples of not so expert lane splitters. The freeways go from barely acceptable to ground up concrete. The Dodge 3/4 ton pickup unloaded can dance around in the lane, they are so rough.

To voluntarily run your bike at an easy 90 + mph in heavy traffic is plenty risky. To split lanes at half again the speed of the traffic is insane. A mere brush on a handle bar, when you have 3-4 inches of clearance can take you out and put you down right this second.

I saw traffic on I 5 hitting an easy 90 at five am on I 5. That was the mildly crazy cagers. Bikers passing them like they were standing still. I like to crank it up like the next fellow, but not so much surrounded by cagers.

Southern California is replete with wanna be road racers. I recall several years ago being passed by a group, conservative cruising 100+ in heavy traffic. I looked into the rearview, saw them, without any time to register brain wise.

They blew past and were gone. Out of sight.

Anybody can screw up and dump their bike just biking. But this guy with some gear on walked away.

And yes, I saw the obligatory numb-nuts on a sportbike decked out in brain-addled protective gear. Shorts, t-shirt and honest-to-God Flip flops.

The flip flops work great. Until they touch asphalt. Then your toes are SOOL. Is the right acronym for feces out of luck?
