VTX Shocks?

i have the 412 h.d./11.5" and they are set at # 3 on pre-load. i often ride two up at 400lbs. combined rider/pillion.the 412's handle this load beautifully. i'm about 270 lbs. so # 3 pre-load works really well whether 2 up or not. my only concern is that the bushings are starting to show some fracturing. i'm almost certain that this is due to aggressive throttle use,rather than grommet composition. if you can use better throttle restraint than i do,you should do very well with these shocks.

First off, thanks for confirming 412's work well for you.
Yes, we don't keep replacement bushings on hand but I've talked to people that have purchases them directly from Progressive. Replacement is usually necessary at approx. 10,000 miles, even on lower horsepower machines like the VTX.

Looks like I will have to wait a bit on the shocks, but will be picking some up sometime this summer. After looking my bike over yesterday, it's time for tires.. both of them this time.. yuck! I was hoping to be able to make it until the Avon Cobras came out.

I went for a long aggressive ride through my favorite twisting mountain road this afternoon. I installed 11.5" Progressive 412's yesterday and set them on the lowest spring pre-load. All I can say is I am very pleased with the ride now and cornering clearance was not compromised at all. What an improvement from stock!

Right, wrong or indifferent, we ("we" meaning that I chair a Rocket Owners Club) think that dealing with Progressive from an overseas vantage point is not exactly customer-friendly. And that dealing with some of Progressive's appointed distributors in Western Europe is way too costly. Thanks

Just an update. Now with over 1500 miles on our R3 with Progressive 440 shocks, I gotta tell you guys. The 440's have totally transformed our ride! Our R3 now actually rides smoother than our Goldwing! They are also great for agressive cornering on undulating roads as well. We took a 300 mile ride yesterday through the Sierra foothills and the ride was wonderful .
