Took me about 30 rattle cans and about 6 complete resands Hanso.......and it's still not great
Then, coz it wasn't great, I put a Mustang synthetic leather lid cover over it after a week or so.....Mustn't have been fully dry coz when I took the cover off a week ago, the material stuck to the paint.....

Ahhh!!!
I don't think you are slow just in too much of a hurry, sounds like somebody was rushing, To much paint to quick! especially with pressure packs you got to lose the tackiness before the next coat and each coat should only be thin very thin, I dont have problem using cans learnt that lesson years ago. Using a gun led to all sorts of new issues but at the end of that first job (the Honda) made me more aware of just how much importance prep is, you really need to have the job well sanded with very fine wet and dry then just before painting wipe it over with Prepsol (Grease and Wax remover). I n the early days when I used to use cans to and put to much down, there were times when even though the paint was dry to touch weeks later it was still soft thats when I learn about using many thin coats and getting a better longer lasting finnish, take your time have a beer between coats or do something else but let the coat have at least 1/2 hour and keep them thin and wispy, the first couple of coats you should be able to see through. Also don't spray on a really humid or damp day if like me you are doing it out side. Sorry I rambled on but if I help you do a better job.... my jobs done.
Thanks very much for the tips......You're right...too impatient. I will have another go in the not too distant future...then again, I might just take it to a pro for a better job at probably a cheaper price
