Triumph LED Headlights anyone?

So Mrs. R-III-R Turbo decided to spend an obscene amount of money on me/headlights for my birthday, isn't she wonderful and aren't they so pretty

Mrs must be loaded ;-)
Then the next question would be: what does she want in return lol ;-)

In 2013 I purchased a pair of Harley Daymakers, fitted in no problem, the wiring connection plugged straight in the Triumph wiring. They are certainly a major improvement but expensive, $400AUD each at the time.

Finally got to fitting these, I already had the dummy headlight switch replaced with a real one off a Triumph Trophy 900 and the associated wiring mod, so I could have just the DRLs on and look cool, until it was time to switch on the dip or full beams.

Also made adapter plugs for the A9830104 Bonneville Bobber lamps, so I didn't have to hack up the cables on them or the Rocket harness.

A9830104 wiring is;
Black - common negative
Red - positive dipped beam
White - positive full beam
Yellow - positive DRL
Blue - N/A

Roadster harness plug wiring is;
Black - common negative
Blue/red - positive dipped beam
Blue/white - positive full beam
Yellow - positive DRL

I have aquired a pair of the new rocket headlamps as well and did a bit of digging and was desiging my own harness and then I found this thread. I have a couple of questions:

1. Does these new lamps fit straight into the R3 headlight bowls? I have a Rocket III Classic 2009 and I suppose the stock headlight bowls are the same between yours and mine? Did you need to create some sort of mounting ring to fit these lights into the stock headlight bowl?

2. The Sutimoto Male connector is grey in photos, the female connector on the new lights is black, my understanding was the grey and black dont mate? Did the grey one clipped correctly onto the black female connector?

3. Wiring, I was planning on going with the same layout as yours, to have a a separte switch to turn the dip / high on otherwise run DRLs only. Now as per my research the harness on mine is the same as yours but the new light's wiring is as below:

Black - common negative
Red - positive dipped beam
White - positive full beam
Yellow - Front Position
Blue - DRL

I tested the pins and if you hook power to Yellow, it turns the DRL on full power, but nothing happens if you connect blue. Looking at the drawings and how the new rocket lights function, my understanding when you turn the key DRL come on full blast, but when you turn the dip on, either a positive or a negative signal is fed to the Blue DRL pin that dims the DRL intensity. I was wondering if you ever had a play with that?

4. I was planning of installing a rocker switch from AliExpress on the handle bars for the lights switch but I love your idea of replacing the dummy button on the RH Switch cube. What modifications did you do make it work? Can you share some details about that please?

You made a good choice.
Well, three; the OEM LED headlights, to make an adapter harness instead of chopping, and to get a switch so one can run the DRLs alone and look cool.


1. The new lamps fit like a glove into the Rocket III bowls, they are all the same part (except Touring which has one big headlight)

2. The connectors were perfect for me

3. I haven't played with the blue, as I wanted the DRLs full brightness at all times, which + on the yellow gives, so didn't experiment any further.
Not sure I understand, you have yellow as position lights (dim DRL?) and blue as (full) DRL in the list - but in the paragraph yellow is DRL full power?
Why don't you test it and see, if applying a connection to the blue does indeed dim the DRL? It would further the knowledge here.

4. I got a used switch from a 1996 Triumph Trophy 900; you'll also need to run a wire from it down to the headlights connector block on the main harness, in order to be a switch for the headlights.
