Treating a windshield??

Speaking of windscreens, I have a friend who's landlord somehow hooked her Dyna with a bumper and pulled it over, ruined the rotor and fender, and scratched the windshield somewhat. What works best to get out those scratches? Will anything work?

Landlord + Vehicle Damage = New Parts !!! :D

Light scratches can be polished out with the drill mounted polishing ball and polish made and sold for headlight refinishing, but deep gouges should be sent out to a company like CeeBailey for professional refinishing.

If you saw a recent post with the Lovebugs all over the windscreen...it was cleaned fairly easy with Dawn dishwashing soap and water...sometimes simple is best!

I recall that my dad used to clean a perspex windscreen protector (remember those? pre laminated glass) with Brasso. He got the tip from an ex RAAF pilot who said they used to use it during WW11 - I guess partly because of availability - no matter how tight the rationing was, the military would always need to polish something - but also because it really worked.

All Rocket Captains...

I don't ride with a windshield on my Rocket III Classic but my wife has one on her Honda Shadow Aero.

She asked if I knew if there was a product that could be applied to the windshield to make bug removal easier?

I know Rain-X is not the way to go as it is a petroleum based product used on hard glass not the plastic of a windshield.

I read somewhere that Pledge can be useful but I am skeptical.

Any insight would be appreciated.

Thanks,
Rain-x now makes a product specific for plastic windshields. Use it on my Slingshot shield and bugs wipe right off, and repels water even better than original Rain-x.

Rain X makes a product specifically for plastic windshields. The only drawback is that it doesn't work very well, nothing like regular Rain X. I've heard both that you can and can't use Rain X on plastic, so I dunno
It may just be a cover your ass policy because they don't know either.
Edit: hadn't seen previous post, I guess your results may vary, lol,but I wasn't impressed.

Regular Rain-X for glass will craze most plastic windshield material.. I used it once on my Yamaha Royale Touring windshield, and it looked like i took fine sandpaper to it.

I wax the crap out of my sports screen and/or windscreen depending the time of year. I always wax before I ride and wax after the ride is completed. Bugs and crap come off very easy. I have noticed I get about a quarter of the bugs sticking to my windshield when waxed compared to no wax. I'm not obsessive but just lazy in that I want to make cleanup as easy as I can. One more thing. About once every few months or so I take the old wax off and reapply new wax. It works for me.👍

Lay a piece of wet cloth, or an old wet sheet on the screen, & 10 minutes later the bugs will just wipe off.
