Transmission Problem...? Crap!

IT can all be fixed and upgraded and you can do all the engine mods while your at it and it will be your dream bike when finished

If you had to ballpark it, what do you think it would cost with the 200 hp upgrade and transmission fix?

That's really hard to say, Bob estimated my tranny at $1500-$2000, ended up almost $4000, he was very apologetic, but it was really tore up, he had to replace almost every gear, I had a 20 lb box of scrap he gave back when done.

I was checking on a used engine on eBay, and called my local dealer to see if it would fit. He said that I would need to use a different ECU because the timing is different between 2011 & 2005. They had a 2008 ECU on eBay as well, but I don't know if that would work. Does anybody know?

Man I wish I had the dope he is smoking. All ecus are the same on Standards, Classics and Classic Toruers after that the ecu changed and the touring was different since 2008. No for quick sake other then them tracking engine serial numbers there is basically no differences other then whether your engien has been up dated except for the GPS sensor which has change but either one will work. It sounds to me like you looked at say the engien I posted which was from a toruing model. Sam cam jig to align the cams (timing) so the only timing difference is in the ecu which you do not need. Slap your stuff on it change the wiring so you can use the newer style GPS sensor and down the road you go.

No offense, but I'm more confused now than I was about this to begin with. Are the blocks not identical in all the models since the beginning with the exception of the upgrades for the transmission failures and drive shaft bearings? Or, are there different cams, and cam timing (mechanically) within the different models? Thanks, just seems like any block should work with any bike using whatever wiring harness and ECU it already has. I mean there's no way for the electronics to recognize a different block is there?

As I said the only real change beside the updated parts and color is a different oil sump pan (early change silver engines) and the GPS sensor/switch changed but the new fit the old and if you get the spring and pin the old will fit the new engines. Of course it your choice on that. This is what I said above but also laid out what model ecu's throughout the years are the same as Daves bike.
I am not sure where I am confusing you but hey its raining today

Also it should be known that some of the clutch components throughout the years have changed but not as much as the difference between the Silver and Black engines.

I'm add Ung up the costs, and it's pretty close either way.... However, if I have the dealer do it, at least I will have a warranty. I'm leaning in that direction.

Am I missing something here?... surely that spring is the one on the end of the clutch actuator... easy to get at and cheap to replace.. I should

Yes your correct but that is not his problem just something else that broke inside the transmission or the output drive is shot the only way to make sure would be to pull the oil sump pan and look for bearing parts in the rear area like below.

I might add pulling the sump and finding this could also mean it is only you out put drive that is bad and grinding no matter what gear she is in. Sump comes off easy you do not even have to pull the kick stand off.
