I just got new tires - Exedra Max rear and Metzler front. As I was leaving the dealer, they told me to take it easy in turns for 50 miles because the manufacturers put a sealant on the tires which makes them slippery. I'd never heard about this and never took it easy with new tires, but I looked it up and sure enough, it is a thing. Anyone know about this?
On modern tires there will not be any mold release substance. That was yesteryear.
However, you still need to take it easy with new tires for a while simply because straight out of the mold they're very smooth and shiny. Even without any goop on them (and there isn't), they're not going to be nearly as grippy as they get when they get roughed up by the pavement.
