Thinking about a R3

While I certainly expect a bit of fanboyism from any on-line forum, those claiming the V-65 is nothing compared to the R3 don't know history or my google-fu is lacking. The v65 was solidly in the 10s. The quickest I've seen claimed for a stock R3 is 11.21 and that was some corrected number from one mag or another.

I think you guys have covered my Roaster vs. Touring questions, but what about years? What updates need to be done for what years?

Just go test ride a rocket and you will see what everyone is talking about! Then drive home (with your new rocket) take a ride on your magna, then put it up for sale because you won't ride it anymore!!!

I think you should thank everyone who commented on your inquiry and not insult them with that fanboyism comment!!!! Nobody said Your V-65 was nothing, what they were saying was that you cannot compare one to the other! Two totally different bikes, with the rocket having so much low end torque, that it can rip the handle bars out of your hands and throw you on your a$$!!

Everyone here is trying to help, if they were not they would have told you to go use the search feature on this site! We were being polite and trying to save you your time and effort of looking it up yourself!

Oh I forgot, everything you read on google must be true just like the rest of the Internet!

The Rocket 3s, as tested, are all neutered. It takes about $8, and 5 minutes to pickup somewhere around 30-40lb-ft in 1st and 2nd gear on Rockets. As delivered, the hardware is capable of running high 10s with a good rider, but it's gimped by the stock ECU calibration, something that is very easy and safe to remedy.

2009+ is what to look for, there were significant transmission upgrades applied in mid 2008, and the starter wiring was re-done so it didn't eat itself over time. There were a few other updates, all minor over time as well, all Roadsters should have all the updates. All Tourings with ABS will have all updates as well.

I'm glad to hear that the Touring can wheelie. I had a dealer tell me that even with all of the power a Roadster has, it can't get the front tire off the ground.

Hmmm...yes,I had a momental last spring,usually I would Crack it,light up the 180 and be off,I forgot I had switched to a 200 in late fall,so a new tire,it came up,I was a little crooked to start with,so not a very graceful touchdown........kinda put my head down and drove away.... till the next stop sign,then lined up and did with no witnesses,still not a graceful landing so I generally avoid it.
