Earlier this year Jeremy at Baxter Cycles in Marne Iowa said that Triumph had announced to their US dealers that they could place orders for 2015 Rocket III Tourings. Baxter usually carries a large number of Triumphs, representing the full product line. Jeremy said that Triumph USA was taking the position that the Touring would continue as a model, and he expressed pleasure at this because the Touring had been a decent seller for Baxter.
Now, at the end of 2014, there are no R3Ts on their inventory. There are several of the assorted flavors of the Thunderbird, including some 2015 models.
It is just speculation, but my sense is that if there are any 2015s, they will be bikes that were held back from 2014 production so that they could be titled as 2015 bikes.
I'm glad I got my 2014. I bought it because of the speculation that 2014 would be the last year. I hope production is resumed. It's a great bike. But the market is quite crowded at this point, including the offerings from Victory, Indian, Harley, Honda, ... It's not that large a market segment, and with this many other marques vying for the small number or riders who would be up to an 875 pound behemoth, it's not surprising that the Thunderbird seems to be emerging as Triumph's continuing entry. The Thunderbird looks to me like it might have a better profit margin.
Better get your new Touring now if you think you want one.
