I am thinking that my next performance upgrade should be the suspension.

I'm 5'11, 170 lbs and will only be riding 1 up. I'm wondering what shocks folks would recommend. It seems that the Progressive 418's and 440's are a popular choice. Is Progressive the way to go and should I go 418 or 440?

I hear the 418 HD's are hard to find these days and are discontinued, it's too bad because they are my choice for shocks under $500.

you could also consider the progressive 430's they are not being made anymore but here and there some pop up for sale on forums and Ebay you can see a picture of them on this forum

I just recieved the Triumph comfort touring shocks that I bought cheap on ebay. I,m going to give them a try on my Classic when the snows gone.
O.

I suggest that you DO opt for HD springs. Had regular springs in a set of 440's and they would bottom out occasionally 1up and always 2up, currently have HD springs in set of 418's and they are excellent.

Also, don't rule out the Triumph Comfort shocks. I'm 5'11" about 185lbs and I can vouch for them. They look like stock, but they are MUCH better and I don't know why all Rockets don't come with them to begin with.

If you do go Progressive, go with the HD springs. I had a set of Standard Progressive 412s and they bottomed out with just me on occaision.. and more often riding two up.

There appears to be a divergence in opinion. Scot in Exile - what was your experience with the HD's?

Also - what is the difference b/w the 418's, 430's, 440's etc.?
