Went to the triumph dealer today and they tried to sell me a used HD said nothing bout triumphs

Called into Albany Triumph last week .. no Triumphs on the floor at all .. Morgan informed me he'd sent them all back and handed back his Dealership. Hanging onto his diagnostic machine , still get parts but done with Peter Stevens , local importer he said. Reckons he's sold 60 odd Triumphs in the Great Southern region (population 35,000) in last 2 years. I thought that was pretty good really ..Kinda sucks.

The way I hear it is Harley is buying out the competition (Triumph). They have to keep the Triumph bikes on display just like any Triumph dealer but the thing is that they don't HAVE to sell them. I'm sure you could buy a Triumph but the sales person isn't going to "push" you to buy one.

The salesman will encourage you to buy the bikes that he makes most commission on.

Several years ago, when I was selling pianos for a very large retailer, the Rep from one of the manufacturers asked why we didn't sell many of his pianos. Everybody agreed that he had the better pianos, but when we showed him the commission structure, and the fact that we could make a lot more money selling a $10,000 piano from the opposition than we could on a $15,000 piano from him, he understood.

Sixty in two years, I was doing a job at the local HD dealership a few days ago the owner was telling me that Aug is always the slow month they have only sold 27 bikes this Aug, now in July they sold 62 in one month.

I agree Triumph needs to spend big on advertising to get their sales again, I was talking to the local dealer and he said it's been dead and agrees there needs to be more marketing.

I think(constantly) that the Harley Phenomena is the result of good Marketing but also the subliminal effect of the barrage of exposure to the product, via the inclusion of Harleys as props in the advertising of other products, how many times do you see Harleys in the background for promotion of clothing, music videos, used as prizes in Raffles ,and the attention they get in traffic every one Knows the sound of a Harley, you cannot go almost anywhere and not hear one ,and the connection they have with the "bad Boy" image that leads to the Must have one motivation, people are identified as owning a Harley , at the truck depot I wasn't known for my truck it was "you know Ken the bloke with the Harley" :banghead::banghead:
