Should my ignition lights come on?

The rocket I've recently bought was stolen and recovered, and several parts were "liberated" by the thieves.
I'm missing the coils and all the parts from inside the tank so the tank connector and coil wires are all hanging lose and unconnected.
I connected up a battery yesterday and turned on the ignition and no light or any sort of activity happened.
Should anything happen with so much disconnected or will the open circuits prevent anything happening at all?
Obviously as I bought the bike without these parts, I didn't hear it run so I'm aware it could have other "issues"
Any advice appreciated

Simon

Thank, I have just sussed out the problem.
The main (30A) fuse has very poor (non existent!) connections on the fuse board. Briefly shorting out both sides of the fuse holder from underneath brings the bike into life.
Thanks

Simon

"brings the bike to life" may have been a little premature…still got issues…..
Sorted the fuse box now there's a good connection, now when I connect a battery, the oil and engine lights flash once as do all the number on the trip, they flash briefly then go out (this is with ignition off) turn ignition on….nothing at all on the instruments…all dead, (although the dipped beams come on) disconnect battery, re-connect….no flash.
Leave bike for 4-5 mins, re-connect battery, instrument lights (as above) flash again briefly.
All fuses intact and making good contacts. can hear a "click" from a relay on the LHS when I connect the battery and a smaller quieter click from the ECU area when the ignition is turned on……any ideas?

Hello Simon, Alas, I have no knowledge to share but I will tip my hat to you on this adventure you are on now. Buying any bike like this and making it run again is worthy of hero status in my book. Good luck to you sir and I wish you the very best on this chapter of life!

To be quite honest you are pretty much asking the answerable. There is no telling what parts are missing or disconnected without a thorough inspection. If you have no previous knowledge of a Rocket it might be a good idea to download a service manual and go through it page by page identifying all the major parts. Once you have a list of the ones that are missing you know where to start, without that you're not going anywhere.

This is my third Rocket,
I have access to a service manual and have been tracing the wires throughout the loom to work out what parts are missing/damaged etc
Apart from the coils and the fuel pump, everything that should be connected is connected.
Obviously I have no knowledge of the bike prior to me so I don't know what parts may have not been working beforehand. Biggest worry is the ECU, its an expensive part if it's FUBAR'd
Just wondering if anyone else has had the same issue really, I don't really expect diagnosis over the 'net but if a forum member has been in my position before they might be able to shed a little light.
I guess a trip to a Triumph dealership to test the ECU is on the cards….

Simon

ps, how about the "falling over" switch? how is that tested/reset?

them be relays clicking. ECU, fuel pump and cooling fan ones are on the left and then starter and indicator ones on the right beside ECU, and possibly the headlight relay too if the kit was installed. so id say the left side click is ECU relay and the right side one must be the headlight relay or something

I'm not meaning to hi-jack tyour thread here Simon, but thought my question below, or more to the point, any answers may be relevant.

I went out to a good friends place yesterday, hit the kill switch when I arrived, BUT didn't switch the ignition off !
Came to leave some hours later and there's the key in the ON position with no lights, instruments etc.
We checked the batery it was down to 10.3 Volts, obviously not enough to start the Beast.

With the Ignition turned OFF the two red warning lights each side of the milage counter were blinking on and off, I just thought that this was unusual, any one have any thoughts as to why this was happening (apart from the obvious Battery being low)
Also I had set both trip meters to zero before I left home, when I got home the milage showing was only 28.3 Miles, this being the one way distance between Roy's place and home.
So obviously the trip meter settings were wiped out with the low battery as well, is this normal ?

As The alarm has been stolen and there is no "bypass plug" on the end of the alarm lead, I'm pinning my hopes on that being the problem.......

I do know if you do not have the bypass plug in where the alarm goes the bike will not start.
