Has anyone found a shifter that would bolt directly to the shift shaft that would eliminate the linkage system. I find that there is to much combined free play with the stock set up. Thanks

Bruce - There is a fair amount of rotational free play on the shaft itself.

If the linkage joints seem loose, replace them with high grade rose joints. And shim out any excessive side to side play on the lever pivot. It works. I've recently removed the heal/toe lever and been through the lever-play thing - my OEM joints were still good.

try to disassemble and install SMALL thicker hard RUBBER washers in the joint to take up slack.
Also heavy/synthetic grease in sealed elbow of joint may help.
