Self-Cancelling Interval

Is there any way to increase the interval for the self-cancelling turn signals? I like to activate my signals a little early to give both oncoming and trailing traffic plenty of warning of my intentions. Mine self cancels (according to the manual) after 265 meters, but it seems shorter.

Can the interval be increased in any way? I don't want to disable it to install a Signal Minder or such device.

Touring models have factory self canceling turn signals? I'm jealous.
 
Do what I do.
I just use hand signals early and when I get closer I use the turn signal.
I figure that way they can see both.
 
It cancels a bit soon for my tastes as well. I've gotten in the habit of just hitting the turn signal switch a few times approaching a turn. Funny thing is I manually cancel the indicator as I complete a turn. Guess the whole self canceling thing is wasted on me.
