Rockets Across America VI -Fall Launch

Some of you may be accustomed to riding staggered formation in large groups
Maybe with a truck or van following as a chase vehicle.

There is another way to ride, which is much more suitable for more technical riding in the twisties, called the PACE.

It is my opinion that we should ride in groups of 5-6 bikes at PACE.

If we divide into 3-4 smaller groups, we would need 3-4 leaders to set the PACE for each group.

To keep the entire ride (all the groups) together and accounted for, we could use a modified "drop off technique".

It would work like this:

The lead group goes until there is a "change of route". At that "turn off point" the leader points at the bike immediately behind him. That bike finds a safe place to wait, in view of those coming up behind. He waits there, directing the following groups through the turn, until the designated "caboose" (the person that will ride last in the last group) passes him, then rejoins them.

In the mean-time, the remainder of the lead group went up the road until finding a spot large enough for the entire ride to regroup and waits there until caboose arrives and all are accounted for.

In case there are several turns close together OR a large waiting spot is not avaiable before the next turn, the leader of the lead group will designate additional riders as "drop offs" as needed (the bike immediately behind leader becomes next drop off).

If we do this it will be more exciting for the faster group in front and less intimidating for riders in the slower back group. And those in the middle will be in their comfort zone as well.

This is just my opinion. I don't want to "dictate". Post your opinions!
