Rocket Rons Bonnie Tail Light mod

Well, there you go again - jumping to conclusions - because I live in Wales, a dam fine place I might add, it does not mean that I'm Welsh!!!!!

(If I keep on like this I might end up with a red helmet or two!!!!)

Nice job Ron
I did mine again last year
Mounted the Bonnie light directly to plate,
then fitted plate as if it were the std light
so no drilling of mudguard at all
Rack fits ok as light is lower
Number plate still clear of tyre

RR Here is pic, all history soon, am going to sell all bodywork & wheels
having complete makeover

Les,

Any pics or description of how it was done???

I'm sure fellow Rocketeers will be interested especially if drilling of the rear mudguard (fender) tin can be avoided.

Regarding my mod - have now got a stainless backing plate (made up by a mate for a couple of pints) for the number plate - looks well good - will post a pic when I get a chance

Cut & panel beat metal plate to fit over rear light aperture in mudguard
Weld 3 pieces threaded stud to plate inline with mounting holes in mudguard spray to suit. Drill & bolt Bonnie light to plate using lower fixing points only, Fix plate with light attached to mudguard using threaded bar
through std light fixing holes with nuts underneath, I also used rubber gasket between plate & mudguard to avoid metal/metal contact.

I still can't figure out how you have done this Les, in the original version it looks like the 3 - 6.5mm holes are wider than the light aperture, so i can't figure how they are going to bolt to the filler plate, and not sure where the top single fixing is going to bolt to then either, am i just being thick !

Tail Mods

Just picked up my original rear fender having had it replaced (dealer dropped bike on day of collection and damaged it) - interested to read about bonnie tail light mod as I would like to have a go at cutting back the fender and clearing up reg plate to expose rear tyre. Bit concerned about potential to get soaked and at what point to stop cutting it back! Has anyone any ideas/ suggestions on this one. Would like to change indicators also. Also wondering if there is a smaller reg plate which can be used which is still legal - or one that I might get away with!! :?:
