Rocket = Albatross

Hey, isn't that part of the appeal?
I love the way people are intimidated by it and I'd hate to think that any 'would be' could own one. I don't care if nobody wants to buy mine - IT'S NOT FOR SALE. Perhaps that's your solution.........

Thats the reason i bought mine, not everybody has one,, or wants one:D
Says it all for me, I love mine and it will probally be the last bike I ever buy, I intend to ride her till I can ride no More!!!!!!!!!!:D:bch::bch::bch:

yes they are intimidating

mine intimidates me. i have a wonderful 08 r3 classic, and honestly, it scares the hell out of me. it's got more power than i can use and it's stock other than the tors and cat delete and download that allows that stuff to work properly. i'm a firm believer that the rocket 3's intention is to rip the arms out of the shoulder sockets. that's a good thing though. since breaking my back just over 2 months ago, i've only been riding my harley streetglide. i've been trying to work up the strength and confidence to ride my rocket and i know it's going to take a while. i ride up to a coffee shop on my streetglide and people will tell me, "nice bike man". when riding my rocket it's, "damm man, that's one big ass hairy legged bike", and it draws a lot more attention in a good way, than any harley i've owned.

What I don't understand is why is the Rocket intimidating? Like any bike between a Honda 50 and a Boss Hoss, it will only go as fast or as quick as your right hand is willing to twist. They all will cruise easily at 30 MPH if that's all you want to do..

There is a web site (forum) for mp3 players called "anythingbutipod.com" the title is self explanitory. If there were a web site called "anythingbutharley.com" I would subscribe. Of course it goes deeper than that as I would not ride just anything. I fell in love with this beast the very first time I saw it at a show and knew I would have one some day. Just about every time I park it, I get someone come over and compliment me on the looks etc, it's constant. Just two days ago I was sitting in a parking lot and a guy asked "do you mind if I ask what that cost?" When I told him the current new price ($20,000 here) He said "worth every penny just for the looks alone" so obviously not everyone thinks they are ugly. I wonder how many "cookie cutter" Harley owners get people crossing the street specifically to admire their bikes.
As said above, this will, quite possibly, be the last bike I own and if it is I will be one happy camper. I got a great deal on the bike but could not care less what I would get for it now.
To the OP, I have a VTX that I've been trying to sell for months with out one single offer and I have a friend who just traded (gave away) his VTX for a Motocross bike so don't assume it's not selling just because it's a Rocket.

Ride it and enjoy it because you won't find anything else like it.

Cheers

Jthree

why not keep the rocket 3 and rent the alternate bike because after the rocket 3 experience, the rented alternative seems to me will not satisfy and must be returned to its rightful owner via a trailer towed behind the rocket. :D:D:D  :D:D:D

My brother just bought a 08 R3T with 15k miles on it for $10,000. After taking one ride on mine, his Harley (my old one) was sold and he bought the R3T. He was a Harley lover, but has been converted and soon my other brother will be doing the same with his Roadstar (also my old bike).

Buyers are out there...... one ride usually does it :D

I wanted a R3 since the first time I saw a picture of one and haven't regretted it once except for the time it was laying on me. I guess they aren't real big sellers, which I don't mind. When I was in my HD phase, every time I would pull up to a stop light, the guy on the bike next to me would have one just like mine. Last week I was in Salt Lake and stopped by a Triumph/BMW dealer there. He had maybe 5 Triumphs and about 40 BMW's, I guess that's about the ratio of what he sells. A couple of weekends ago I was at a stop light and a guy pulled up next to me on a Dyna of some sort and was revving and acting like he wanted to race. Although I know better I obliged him for about an 1/8th of a mile. When he finally caught up, he had a big grin, gave me a thumbs up and said "Awsome!" :D I don't think he was expecting to get smoked by a dump-truck sized bagger. People are always coming up to me and talking about it, no one ever gave the HD's a second glance. I've ridden it about 12,000 miles in the past year so whatever intimidation factor it had is gone by now. So, those are a few reasons why I like my Rocket, not that you asked. :)

Agree, I don't understand it either, the power is very controllable. They are heavy but so are a lot of cruisers. I think it may just be the intimidating appearance that makes people not even want to try them out. I have offered several people a test ride on the Rocket and only have had one taker, a zx10r rider who took it up to 130 mph and had a great time. I tried to follow him on my klr but he went out of sight very fast.:D

Rockets should have a warning sticker on the tank .. CAUTION. RIDING THIS MOTORCYCLE WILL SCREW YOU FROM EVER REALLY ENJOYING RIDING ANY OTHER MOTORCYCLE EVER AGAIN !!!! :p
couldn't have said that better myself, I loved my old ST1100 honda did mega miles on it "I loved it, there will never be another as good as this" ...........that is untill 2007 Ulysses AGM at Coffs Harbour I said I wouldn't mind seeing what all the fuss was about this Bull Terrier of a Motor bike it's front tyres as big as the ST's back tyre ugly peice of sh!t who would own one was some of the comments said by a myself and a couple of others, then I had a real good look and saw the "don't f#ck with me" attitude written all over the bike. Anyway a couple of the other guys got in first and came back saying they never been so scared as they opened up the throttle and said it was too much bike for them I had meanwhile come around to it's looks and it was a "Triumph" (I have always like the old Bonnie's) I took it for a ride and as suggested by the Triumph lead rider let the others get fair gap on the way back before opening it up "but make sure you hang on he said", I said yeah yeah any way I snaped the throttle open as he suggested .... nearly left Ann behind thak goodness I had warned her and literally ripped my arms out of thier sockets that was april 2007..... and I said to all my mates I'm going to get one of them one they they said yeah yeah, April 2010 the ST1100 droped it's lunch in the alternator ( big job on an ST) took it in to the only Honda shop around who also happened to be a Triumph dealer He had "The Mistress" sitting there and she had done 180 demo klm's any way we got talking and he said ah ya don't want that one you want one of the new Roadster's or if you are going to do big miles the Touring and showed me the catalog as soon as I saw that they had dropped the three pipe look I said crap I better buy one now then he said maybe you should take a thunder bird for a ride I took one look at the spec's .. "what almost as heavy and nowhere near as much power" I said take a grand of and I will take her pending approval on a loan from the bank next arvo I rang and said register it, I'll be there tomorrow and I'll keep the ST as a second bike.........she hasn't been ridden since:D yeah I think I love her:D
