Ride to South Padre Island.

Nice ride it was. Andy and Pam planned and led the ride. Anthony joined us. We rode 300 miles or so in the north side of Houston. Three gas tanks for me. It was windy and cool but the roads were dry, hills were plenty and mild and turns were easy medium speed. Rode though Magnolia, Richards, dense piney woods, Shiro, Huntsville, 190 to Livingston through Texas hills and ranches with horses, cattle, turkeys and yes, oil wells. We even rode through a ghost town like out of a movie. Saw many beautiful new and old houses perched on hills. Just our beloved beautiful Texas.

On the way back we followed a Sheriff on 59 South. It looked like he was late to work and in a hurry. Anthony got on his bumper and I guess flashed his high beams and off we went. My speedo went past and stayed @ 100mph a few times. Yeah, right behind the Sheriff. Now I see why people soop up their Rockets. If you are chasing Andy or Anthony you need the extra horsepower.

Next ride should be to Livingston where we will meet Chuck who will take us through the back roads of Sam Rayburn reservoir. He resides in Jasper. An overnight is possible so the following day we can ride across Toledo Bend reservoir to the college town of Natchitoches which is worthwhile visiting. The roads are beautiful and there is a small restaurant right in front of the river with great food. There are many nice routes back to Houston from there. Otherwise we can make it a long day ride and just ride back, (Fast!). Will try to do this before Anthony moves to Miami.

I'm getting old, achy and weak but have a couple of thousand miles to run so let's get to it. Whoever is interested please PM me and we'll all get on the same page.

Wish you all a safe, happy and profitable 2017. Enjoy the company of your family and let your dog in at night.

Yes it was nice having a Sheriff escort at 100mph almost the entire way home. My speedo app read max speed 110mph. It's ridiculous that I still wanted to pass him. Thank you Rick and Anthony and sorry I missed the main long and twisty road I was trying to find. Do they still make paper maps?:)

Don't sweat the small stuff. I'll get us some maps for the up coming rides.

He was just begging to be passed... I knew we were pushing it by staying so close to him, so I didn't.

It was a good ride though, no worries about the roads we took. There are other days.

I do know, that 17hour ride to Miami is going to require a new seat for my roadster. Even with the gel pad, after 5 hours of riding, I could tell rest stops to stretch would be more frequent.

Let me know when you are making the ride. Me might go with you and stop in Jacksonville to visit my son. We might just rush the RIII on the truck bed and drive and drop you off in Jacksonville.

We're still a couple months away. We have a realtor in Miami already searching properties for us and a call this afternoon with a realtor here in Houston to start the process of getting our current house on the market.

I'll let you know when the trip is going to be. Thanks for the offer, cutting 8-9 hours off of the seat time would be nice.
