New to me 2005 R3. Did an oil/filter change and a day later the filter is slowly weeping oil from the seal. Did a loosen and retighten but leak persists. Before I pull it off to replace can someone tell me how much will leak out if I remove the filter without draining the sump?

Filter used is a Purolator L14612. I have used car filters on many different bikes without issues. I did notice that the something on the filter or bike does not allow one to really compress the seal like I'm used to. The ribs on the bottom of the pan were caked with oily dirt. It's probable this problem has been on-going.

Quite a bit (but less than a quart) if your quick. Somebody just pointed out the new thread heads on the purple tots don't deal anymore (@barbagris maybe). Even though the model number didn't change and it still says it's a match. Haven't heard of any issues with the Mobil filters.

PURALATor and another brand has changed there way of making there filters.
the new design allows the filter to become tight before it compress the seal.
there is a thread on here that shows pics.
maybe try the mobil and i have not had trouble with the wix so far.

The new Purolator filters don't fit. They will leak. Get a Mobil M1-108 filter and all will be good. You won't leak much oil when you change the filter, but have something to catch the bit that will come out.

I looked at my filter spares. The Purolator L14610's were the "new" design. Of the Purolator L14612's I found one new and one old. Since the Purolator L14612's won't be fully covered by the chrome cover I picked a generic Advance Auto driveworks DW4612 filter that has the older cap design. Im saving the one good Purolator L14612 for my Stratoliner.

I hope I don't have this problem with my Nissan....

I use the Purolator synthetic filters PSL14610 I am not sure if they changed them or not but it is the longer version filter I still use the chrome cover on it. You can see the filter stripe but it does not stand out much.

Every Purolator filter in the series (6607, 7317 equivalent) I looked at in Walmart and Advance Auto looked to be the "new" design. At this point Purolator is no longer compatible. Fram filters use a totally different end cap design. They look to be OK.

The driveworks DW4612 tightened exactly like one wants. It never "bottomed" out. I change oil frequently so I'm not worried much about the filter.

At this point you have to confirm what end cap design is being used. A manufacturer/part number is no longer enough. Forget about ordering on-line....

Bummer I always had to order mine on line as the auto parts stores do not carry the synthetic ones at all.

I can see that the two filters are different but which is the new style that doesn't fit properly?

I changed oil with extended Bosch filter. Bad seal and leaked. Dealer replaced with original Triumph filter, when I had some stuff installed.

This was on the list of filters that will work on the Rocket. Perhaps there has been a design change.
