R3 vs R3T Engine

I was visiting my local NEW TRIUMPH Dealer here in Huntsville and there was a Triumph Service Rep there. In our conversation, I asked the big question that always comes up between the two versions of the Rocket. How is the R3T underpowered? He said it was all in the Cams. The Cams are set up to give the R3T the lower RPM Torque than the R3. The Cams are the difference along with the ECU Tune. This makes since this is due to the way Carpenter Racing gets the extra power from this engine as well.
 
a salesmen at my dlr tried the same pitch on me, they should be ashamed of themselves.
 
Must say I've never heard that before and it seems a very odd way to go about it when all the literature just refers to "de tuned". Why would they mess with the internals? Plus it's hard to see how it helps any sales pitch. WTF?
 
Your dealer should open the shop manual instead of smokin crack then he would see the cams are set up identical.

It wasn't the shop guy. It was Corporate Triumph. It makes since because that is how Kawasaki used the 1000 Ninja engine in the original Concours. Milder Cams were used along with smaller carbs to get more lower end torque.

Also, as far as specs go, how many years has Triumph said the USA had ABS on our R3T bikes? I think it started in 2012. We actually didn't get it until 2014. Milder Cams is a possibility of why Tripps had to do his magic on Tourers just to get them to match up with a stock R3R. Just a thought.
 
THE ENGINES ARE THE SAME So all you need is a retune and a pipe and you can double the stock HP
 
Warp has shown how the cams are set up the same. As for the cams themselves being different, check the part numbers. I'm betting they're the same.

Just because they gave the guy a name tag doesn't mean he knows what he's talking about.
 


I bet you money my R3t it making the same if not more hp than your R3 and all I added was a tune and jars with pods no cam Wayne Tripp can vouch for it as he tuned it said it was the best he had seen in a long time and better than most R3's
 

My 2011 R3T has ABS while on the subject of BS the myth regarding the Touring's "different engine" is perpetuated by experts who do not go to the Specification Sheets, same all the way through except the Touring's mapping is different an easy fix!, the weight difference is equivalent to a very small pillion, I have given a 120Kg mate a pillion ride when his Harley threw a drive belt and the rocket still impressed him with the acceleration compared to his 103 switchback solo.
