06 R3 - will be replacing tires, Metzler or Avon?

Bridgetsone Exedra Max. Avon second choice.

Bridgstone exedra max by far on the rear 240/55/Vr16
Michelin Commander II on the front 140/75/Vr17
if you can not get the Michelin then Avon cobra on the front
Just my Opinion.
Ferk Metzler

Sounds good, with the Bridgestones, but seems like you would want to go with the same brands on the front and back.

Also,If I let the air go just a little low in the front, it really messes with the handling. Tires are finicky. And make a difference of course..
Opinions? thx,

The Metzler are sh1t on front and Back thu I am not running a bridgey on the back and regardless of what you decide to run on the back I can not fault the Avon Cobra on the front I would have tried the Michelin but it was not available in Auss at the time I needed one
As far as running different brands are concerned Bridgestone does not make a suitable (read - up to the job) front tyre a couple of guys Richard (canberraR3) have tried their front and were not impressed
I am very hard on tyres as I love pushing it a bit in my playground 10 minute from home and I also some long hauls with my 450+ kg camper on the back and by far the best front I have had has been the A/Cobras I have tried Shinko's and had them not stand up to the task by overheating and delaminating (2 of them)

I had the Bridgestone on the front and back too for a while. When it was time to replace, Bridgy went on the back again and NOT on the front. I agree, the Bridgestone front tire doesn't handle as well as others. Not impressed.

I run the 240/55 Bridgestone Exedra Max on the rear and the 150/80 Bridgestone Exedra G701 on the front. Both are radials. The G701 was the OEM front tire on some year of Gold Wing. It is only rated to 130MPH, but since I rarely hit 130MPH for any length of time, I didn't mind. I have been over 130 a time or two with no issues. I put these tires on at about 63K miles and have 74K miles on my bike now and the tires still have plenty of tread life left.

This combination of Brigestones is $100's less than the Avons. The Avons are really good looking, stick well and have good life. Avon's did have a bad batch a while back where several of us busted the radial cords in the rear tire, causing the belts to seperate. The Bridgestones handle just as well and cost WAY less. I've had nothing good to say about the Metzelers, the rear always tended to square off early and the front always tended to cup.

Yes I did try the Bridgestone on the front. It was OK but very dissapointed in how fast it wore out. The tread's in the wrong place for anyone who doesn't ride mostly in a straight line. Avon on the front is brilliant. It's a tyre that's just there and you actually don't think much about it. Sure footed, very capable and even wear from edge to edge.

Plenty said about the Bridgestone on the rear in several threads on here. Easily the best of the 3 bike tyres we have to choose from. Absolutely no question.
