I think the BS IS wider because I think it is a ratio, width to profile - or something

I think the Ratio refers to the height of the tyre from the Rim rather than width, the 50 profile 50 % ratio of the 240 width (Hence 240/50 if you measured it would be approx 120 from rim to crown of tyre) some tyres just look different (read wider) whilst being the same actual width

Of course I colud be wrong but that was what I was taught many years ago

You are correct. The tread width is 240 and the side walls are 50%, 55% etc of that. The Bridgestone definitely looks fatter though, probably because it's also a bit flatter.

and I care not ........... you are entitled to your opinion no body is forcing any body to use them... but to quote articals refering to car tyres on cars means nothing to the many users of Car tyres on bikes, it is a different kettle of fish and I speak with Real facts based On Actually having an open mind and trying it.

How does a tire debate get started, is it based on logic or symbol. Or maybe Symbolic Logic. There is always a trade off with tires: traction versus long life. I get a kick how Metzler has become the Lance Armstrong of tires. Back in the day 50's and 60's they all rode the darkside..they didn't have traction and a lot of them didn't have a long life.. I wonder how long it will be before the Bridgestone becomes the old kid on the block.

As soon as someone comes out with a better tyre. Simple really. There's three to choose from now and, as with any line up, one will come out better. Don't think anyone's saying its perfect.
