ROCKET STORM 3 R 2025
Hey all,

sorry if this has already been discussed somewhere...

I’m 192 cm (6'3") and currently riding a R Storm version after over 10 years on a M1800R/M109R. Naturally, I’m used to a stretched-out cruiser riding position – like what the GT version offers with its forward pegs, but
I choosed the R version mainly because I didn’t like the GT’s pulled-back handlebars, which put me in too upright a posture. The wide, straight bars on the R feel much better for my size and riding style.

That said, I really miss the forward-mounted foot pegs. The mid-position pegs on the R feel a bit cramped for my height. I know Triumph sells an official conversion kit, so swapping pegs between GT and R is possible both ways.

Also, a key reason I went with the R: the seat. It’s a bit smaller, but sits higher than the GT’s – and that extra height helps keep my knees from being too bent.

So – has anyone here installed the GT foot pegs on an R model?
Any feedback on comfort, handling, or how the setup feels overall?

I know many GT owners go the other way due to heat from the headers or general discomfort, so I’d love to hear if anyone’s done the reverse.

Thanks!

Hey, I thought both GT and R need a kit to swap the peg position, no?
The kit is to move the GT pegs to R mid controls (or vice versa). It requires a different brake like, shifter and brake pedal.
The GT comes with a 3 position rail the pegs/controls are mounted to adjust riding position: The shifter link has a short link that is removed to go to the full rearward position.

Thanks for the explanation, I get it now. It's a pity the R version doesn’t offer the same adjustability. On my R, I did make use of the vertical adjustment and moved the pegs one step lower. If there were an option to move them slightly forward as well, that would be perfect — although to be fair, I’m not sure it would fully solve my issue anyway.

Cheers

Heat isn't an issue on the GT because it comes with wider heat shields, so if you go to GT pegs I'd strongly recommend getting the GT shields, or else it will be an issue.

I can't speak to the handlebars, since I have a GT with both the GT seat and the R seat, but I can say that when I have the R seat installed, I feel cramped despite being average height but I'm sure that you probably wouldn't feel cramped compared to coming from the R pegs. Given your height, you could also have the GT pegs moved to the fully forward position.

Edit: Thinking about the geometry of it, a GT seat might allow your legs to stretch out more with the GT pegs (since you'd be feet forward and the GT seat moves you 1" back), but you should probably just get the pegs (and heat shields) first, get used to it, then sit on a GT in the showroom to see if it feels better before dropping coin on a seat.
