Question - "Idle box recall" on 2005 Rocket

Hi Guys:

There is an outstanding "idle box recall" (I think that's what they called it) outstanding on my 2005 R3. I've only had the bike a week. My question is as follows:

Should I allow the dealer to perform the recall, which will presumably involve a new "tune," and if so, will this new tune eliminate the possibility of performing the gear sensor resistor mod afterwords to recoup the so called 7% additional power?

Feel free to flame if I have misunderstood something regarding the recall or the mod.

It won't stop you from doing the resistor mod, if I were you I would purchase a Tuneboy set up, I did and I believe it was worth it. if you do any other mods like exhaust or triple k&n's you will need it to make adjustments. With the Tuneboy you can control the amount the secondaries open verses taking them out. The resistor mod fool the computer into thinking it is in fourth gear all the time and I think it will mess with your neutral gears engine map this could mess with cold weather starting and warm up.

Also you will need the Tuneboy if you decide to purchase a super charger from Richard at TTS Performance I have mine on order and he supplies the base tune for the SC set up.

Welcome Spencer, I am more and more in favor of putting gas in the tank, changing the oil on time, (and the rear tire every 4,000 miles if it lasts that long! :lol: ) and just go ride the bike. The bike is pretty quick. And in my opinion there are riders that are pretty quicker. :lol: I've fooled with exhaust, intake and tuneboy, did the resistor mod, (it works) and taken the secondaries out, (mixed feelings about that). Mine is quicker than it used to be from a stop light, and when the tire hooks up it will lift the front in second gear, even with me on it.

But getting a chance to go ride with a bunch like this past week with the Tahoe Salvo, that is priceless and I wouldn't want the bike to be down for repairs causing me to miss the event. I almost missed Americade last year, and this year the idle problem reared it's ugly head just a week before I was to leave on the bike. Best to be able to ride it.

Good input. I'm going to go ahead and get the recall done and see what a difference that makes, if any. Mechanically speaking, my bike is completely stock, so now is probably a good time to perform the Triumph sanctioned fix. I've seen some folks mentioning the idle problem, and it certainly doesn't sound like something I want to experience first hand.

That said, once the recall work is complete, I'm sure I'll have plenty of opportunity to tinker with the bike.

This is my daily driver, so I too want to have the bike ready to roll on a moments notice.
