Question for you experienced Triumph owners

2014 Rocket III Roadster
My Roadster is just approaching the 500 mile mark. I have always done most of my own servicing and intend on doing so with this. However, the required 500 mile maintenance says Engine ECM: check for stored DTC.
The nearest dealer to me is 200 miles away. Is this something Triumph is a real sticker on? I don't mind traveling to a dealer maybe for a 10,000 mile service. Even then, I can do most all of the service myself. But at 500 miles I'd just as soon not undergo the expense.
At some point I might just have to give up the warranty simply because of logistics. There is only so much cost of travel before I would just simply let it go. But while the bike is so new, I'd like to let the warranty ride.
I guess I should call Triumph and see just what they are going to insist on but I'm wondering if any of you have experience with this. Any input is appreciated.
 
I got the dealer to do my first service. At that point they are supposed to check to see if everything is as it is supposed to be. Whether they do that or not may vary considerably between dealers. I did all the servicing myself after that.

Engine codes can be read, and cleared, with TuneECU - which is the most essential tool you can get for your bike. They are worth reading and finding out what they mean before clearing though. They come up for a reason.
 
Check for stored DTC (diagnostic trouble code) as Ian said get the tuneboy or the free tune ecu and you can check and clear them yourself, doing your own work will not void the warranty just keep good records and receipts and know what you are doing.
 
I got my 1st service at a stealer and that's the last one cause they are knts, I got over 40000klm on mine now and only have 10 months warranty left. That being said the only breakdown I've had that would of required a warranty claim so far has been the cam cover seal letting go , I fixed it myself for at a guess around $120 and earned knowledge to boot , I do all my own servicing and no doubt have saved myself a great deal of money , with the hours I work I'm not in a position to be dropping the bike off during the week for services anyway .

The Crescent cable ($21.95) from Amazon (blue connector, silver plastic coated cable) works fine.
 
You have a new Rocket and consider travelling 200 miles too great a chore? Sell it man. You obviously don't want to ride it.

I purchased mine from www.lonelec.co.uk, recommended on TuneECU's website. £11.66 for the cable and £4.49 for Royal Airmail shipping came to US$25.17 total to California. Cable is well made, comes with a micro-USB adapter so you can use it with your Android (download the TuneECU app for ~$14).
