Dumb arse???? Rosa Parks was one woman who sat on a bus...the Black Panthers along with Martin Luther King were founded on the back of a handful of protesters who sat quietly in shops etc...ground swell of opinion to address injustice, intolerance and apathy at any level and across any context invariably starts from, well the ground up!!
 
No-one could realistically expect every bikerider in Qld to risk coming to the attention of Police by expressing their opposition to these absurd , unjust and unworkable laws. A rowdy and committed 2,000 is not a bad start I thought. Risky business putting yourself 'out there' at this time in Qld .. that's for sure. Riders or mates of riders that have been pulled up 2 and 3 times a week on their way to and from work .. on jap road bikes and even big dirters , not Harleys .. because the cops are "looking for Criminal gang members " are the ones that are turning up to protest. Of course they could choose to idly sit by and watch their freedom to ride their motorcycles taken away from them .. by continual Police harassment. Newman has repeatedly apologised for the "necessary inconvenience caused to law abiding riders" but this is just ridiculous what's taking place here.
 
Can't believe anyone who refers to any individual who takes a strong stand on his and others Human rights as a dumb arse approach. Guess we should all become sheep and follow along single file. Guess if we sit in a restaurant with our families and listen to a bunch of foul mouth ***s spewing profanity we should write a letter to the Restaurant owner. Sorry fellows but I am old school and believe in standing up for my rights and the rights of others. We as an Americans would be delusional to not think for one moment that the same thing couldn't happen on our home front. Hats off to my mates in OZ who take the initiative to go out and voice there opinions. Letters go in the trash strength in unity never will. Long live my mates in OZ!
 
History is littered with shenanigans like this QLD govt. is trying on - summed up by Niemoller (after the Nazis rise to power):

No we do not shoot our political leaders...that is an awful thing to say.

One of the first things the Nazis did after coming to power was to disarm the general public all over Germany. The first country the Germans invaded they took by force all the guns in that country and over through the Gov.
France was the same....That is why the Americans dropped 10's of thousands of cheap hand gun all over France was to arm the citizens. This cheap gun was used to kill a German soldier and take his far superior weapon.

The cheap gun was called the Liberator....Did it help???.......I am not sure but it was better than nothing

I do think as of today most Americans are sitting in apathy towards public affairs and is to be ruled by evil men......I am not sure if this country will ever have a fair election again.

From what I see...the issues that ya'll are having now with the bikers is just the tip of the Iceberg as what else is to come..The Government is there to protect you from yourselfs......Like our Gov. has been protecting us here for the last 40 yrs......chipping away at personal rights slowly but surely.
 

Throughout history, it's been seen time and again.

I come down on the side of those that get off their ass and do something!

Actually, we have a history of doing exactly that. That's the way we changed out the last rulers and formed the current constitutional republic. When this one gets overly oppressive and unresponsive to it's citizens I would expect the patriots of this country to do it all over again. It's generally the way regimes are changed out all over the world. However, being a peace loving individual I would gladly renounce any and all forms of rebellious thought if you can name one repressive governmental regime in world history that has voluntarily given up power.
 
I enjoyed the ride to Brisbane with a few hundred bikes. Met up with Tc and and a few thousand people. I thought the numbers were pretty good for a first event. The few speeches made by a politician and lawyers was really only what Tc has been saying this entire thread
 
My point is directed at the so called once off "Freedom Ride" on the 1st of December which was a lame knee jerk reaction that will result in no change to the current unjust and unfair laws in Queensland. Not a direct poke in the eye to the blind man!!

It is a bit like ranting in here about the "unjust" laws. You are all preaching to the converted. WTF is going to change? Nought I reckon.

Yes writing letters works, running for the senate might help, direct action like really protesting (look at the Greenies in Tassie for example), getting actively involved in the democratic process not being a faceless nobody amongst the crowd in an empty park on a Sunday.

I look forward to hearing and seeing some clever direct action by the motorcycle fraternity in Australia in response to these laws however I reckon I will be disappointed.
 

Yes you have, the once off Freedom Ride I believe is simply the wrong approach. It is really a "Dumb Arse Approach" and I have to agree with Newman, all the riders might as well have gone on a Scenic for all the good it will do. What I believe is an ongoing direct action approach which is focused and ongoing needs to be put into place.

I don't hear it or see it. No one is putting a clever direct action campaign up against these Laws. Where are they, who's driving them??
