Here in the Southeast our black bears have been on food stamps since the 50's so they are harmless unless you cut off free stuff. This happened recently in Black Mountain, NC where the bears are now doing Breaking and Entering. The economy affects everyone.

I had one encounter on the Rocket with a Black Bear near White Water Juntion Vermont. I was riding down a grade and the Black Bear crossed about 200' in front of me, they can move. Anyone thinking they can out run a bear better think twice

The only bear we have in Australia that is dangerous actually drops on top of you from trees out in the bush. Not to be confused with the more common Koala , that stay up in the treetops and are quite timid. Bushwalkers and foreign tourists are often ' dropped on' and hurt quite badly. All the National Parks have big signs warning visitors of ' drop bears'.

Apparently the bear was hit by a pick-up truck not a Harley if you read on. Still being a pick-up truck it is quite possible it had another broken down Harley in the back.
