Popping out of gear

good day all;
I’ll be referring to a 2013 Triumph Trophy which my buddy owns. I thought I’d just throw this out there as I trust the expertise on this forum.

Scenario: on hard excelleration the bike will pop into neutral while excellerating from first or second gear. If we excellerate slowly the bike will stay in gear until we shift. It only happens when we pull back on the throttle... I’d call it deliberate excelleration. Any ideas?

Poor design and a couple missed shifts will do it.
 
Generally that. Best bet is to have it undercut in the process of rebuilding. It will take away the tendency to round off the dogs in the future.
 
and in the end take your trans to robinson's industries in saint james NY they will back cut your gears provide a beefier 4th install thicker clips all for around $700. they specialize in R3
 
I just realized this is on a Trophy not a Rocket. Same issues, Trans dogs rounded, but, you're going to need to find a shop willing to take on the work of back-cutting the gears, robinsons may, but there are others out there you'll find on google. Should be in the range of 350-600 for the work.

The biggest cause besides being assembled wrong, is screwing up shifts. Tapping the shifter too gently and only a portion of the dog engages, apply power and it slips out, rounding the edge slightly. Each subsequent time it slips out, its doing more and more damage eventually giving you a chamfered looking edge where it should be 90 degrees. As a result, it will never stay in gear again. Back-cutting provides a negative angle on the dog to positively lock, as power is applied the dog is drawn further in until it seats in the bottom of the pocket, giving perfect mating and fitment. It physically prevents popping out of gear.
