My bike threw a P0705 on the weekend. After some Google research (with most of the quality search results coming back to our beloved .net site) I decided that I would give the GPS a clean before donating hard-earned funds to Triumph and their dealer network.

I managed to get the sensor unbolted from the bike without any dramas. However, my sensor looked somewhat different to the reference pictures I was using as a guide - ie, post #13 in http://www.r3owners.net/threads/help-please-check-engine-light-no-gear-indicator.15243/page-2.

So I gave it a bit of a clean and just bolted everything back together.

Below is the picture of my sensor (pic 1), and it's repository at the back of the engine (pic 2). On the sensor I was expecting to see the 6 dots (electrical contacts I assume) as per the reference picture. Instead, I have a white plastic cap with a post sticking out of it. I assume the electrical contacts are under the white cap. I didn't want to attempt to take the sensor apart any further.

My question ... has the Rocket sensor changed from what I am seeing in the reference picture, or should the white cap and post have stayed in the bike (just like on the reference picture)?

I guess there is another question I should put out there too ....... is it possible that this is not the sensor I am looking for.

Pic 1 - Sensor. How do I get to the 6 electrical contacts?

Pic 2 - the sensor repository

Thanks.

HMMMM it looks like Triumph has changed the gear sensor Art just took his loose which was enough to get rid of his problem. He has a 2012 or 13 model roadster. I guess Triumph is trying something new now.

YEP just loosened mine moved it around and its working great now

My gear position indicator is working again after a quick clean of the sensor and reassemble. Although I did forget to reset the check engine light. Hopefully it stays off when I get back home and reset it.

good to see Triumph is trying to resolve some of the Electrical Gremlins
