interesting thread on oil this week...this prompts me to ask...

I live in Florida. As it’s warm most of the year would you recommend a different weight for here. I cannot find the comment now made on here but read that there are two recommendations ie One for ‘normal seasonal climates and one for hot weather climates. This true folks? If yes what should I use here in Florida?
Thanks

That's a question for Scot in Exile.

Back when I had my 07 Classic and knew I'd be riding in the Southwest, I used the heavier viscosity, which I believe was 20-50.

Edit: Mobile 1.

Haven't yet had to change the oil in my Rocket. But when picked up at dealership, they said they have Castrol Synthetic. My previous ride, 03 Suzuki Volusia, had 86k miles, and after the 1st oil change from the dealer that used Kawasaki oil, I used Shell Rotella T Synthetic.
I worked in an oil lab back then and the metal count was far less with the Rotella T than the Kawasaki oil.

My Rocket is my third bike since 6/07. I have used 10W/40 without any issues during that time. For the last 7 years I have mostly used Amsoil 10W/40 and have been pleased with the shifting and longevity of the oil. On my Nomad I would change the filter every 7,500 miles and the oil and filter every 15,000 miles. For the Rocket, I think I will follow the 10,000 mile interval per the manual. I am about 3,500 miles from my first oil/filter change. I ride year round as a daily rider.

My oil of choice is Lucas synthetic, 20w50. My logic is based on the second reason for motor oil. Temperature transfer. The chart I saw had Lucas transfer temperature on 20w50 @ 11 degrees higher than both Mobil 1 and Amsoil. Both of these are excellent choices also.
