You sound like my Uncle Allan Qaulity goes out the door but he does it:D
Can I give you cheep gas:)
Picked up my oil filter and told him about the oil you guys use and that I'm going to try to do it my self they told me I should just spend the $135 on Triumphs synthetic oil if I use anything else then I'm taking a chance on burnning out the motor.
I said all the guys on the rocket site is useing it and they got way more miles then mine. They said ok your taking a chance on your motor, that Triumph will not guarantee it I said its a 05 they won't gaurantee it any how:)
This week end I'm going for it let you guys know if I did it, seems like I can't get any one over for some beers:rolleyes:

The specified oil is on page 1.18 of the Service Manual. Viscosity is 10W40 or 15W50 and Semi or fully synthetic. It should have an API SH (or higher) and JASO MA rating. The dealer is trying to scare you into paying him about $50.00 over the price of the oil he buys from Triumph (which happens to be a relabeled MX4T Mobil 1 product). I have run the Mobil 1 in both my Triumphs for over 60,000 miles with zero bad results. A semi synthetic with an American Petroleum Institute rating of SH or higher will work fine, just change it more often. Full synthetic should be changed every 6000 miles. Check out API Motor Oil Service Classifications

Also change dealers, that ones trying to rip you off.

What is the name and phone # of this Triumph Dealer?

Yea this is a dealer BMW Triumph in Salt Lake. $135 for Triumphs oil and another $100.00 to change it thats crazy.
I know this mechanic that extended my trailer and welded it all to gether he told me if I go buy all the oil and the filter he will charge me $35.00:)
So if I buy 7 quotes I should be good right?
He said I could watch him so next time I could just do it my self:D

6 qts of Mobil1 4T. Make sure you get it from the motorcycle oil shelf and not the Mobil1 made for cars. Get a Mobil1 M1-108 oil filter while you are at it.

Cane, be aware that Triumph has switched over to recommending Castrol full synthetic oil instead of the Mobil 4T. There is nothing wrong with the Mobil stuff, but Triumph was having trouble getting Mobil to supply that oil in sufficient quantities in a "timely" manner to Triumph dealerships...plus the cost was more. The Castrol should be fine and supposedly less expensive. Others here have made other suitable recommendations just make sure it is for motorcycles.

Also Triumph uses a semi synthetic for the break in period prior to the first service then only full synthetic is used after that. That is why the oil can be good for up to 10,000 miles between services. If you do not use full synthetic then you can expect to change the oil more often.

The Service Manual states the amount with filter change is 5.4 liters. The 5.4 liters X .264172 (conversion to US Gallons Liquid) = 1.4 gallons. Also one (US) quart is roughly about .946353 liters so buy 6 and you're good to go.:)

I just checked the Autozone web site. Look at the small engine 4-stroke page and you'll find a host of oils you can use. The Mobil 1 product (MX4T) 10W40 lists in our area for $9.99/qt. So that's about $63.00 (depending on taxes) for the oil and about $6.00 for the filter. Call it $70.00 (you tell me if $235.00 is a rip off).
