Since it's a dry sump having the oil tank low won't hurt the motor like a wet sump bike. The problems associated with a low oil tank level aren't as catastrophic, but will cause problems over time. So I check routinely.:)

After putting in 4 quarts the dipstick was reading over the maximum level. The manual says you can expect to put 1 to 1.5 additional quarts into the bike after idling the engine for a minimum of 30 seconds. After I idled the engine that's exactly what happened. Oil level dropped and I poured in another quart and a bit.

This is good to know so I should just put four in for now then start it up then I could see how much more I could put in. Great I should be doing it in a couple of hours when I get a few more stuff done
I just fired my agent got out of the contract she said I can't do that and give it to another agent and I said oh yea watch me, I got out of it and getting another agent, I didn't think she was doing her job to get people in here to sell my house, hope this one I'm getting will be better.
I will get back to you guys and tell you how long it took me and how easy it was.
Thanks

Finally got around to changing mine yesterday, **** .... I had forgotten how much 5.5 quarts really is. That is alot of friggin oil! I knew it would all fit in the drain pan, but I still got a little nervous when it started getting close to full. LOL It runs out of that center plug FAST. ;)
I got some oil scoop from the parts counter guy at the local Yamaha store about Mobil1, seems he heard that Mobil is going up to over $15 a quart to possibly $17. Don't know if it's true or not, but they are switching over to Amsoil next month due to the cost increase. So if you guys are finding it under $8 a quart, you might want to stock up just in case. There must be something to the rumor if Triumph has already switched to Castrol, so I'll keep an eye open for any good fully synthetic on sale for next time. It was easy to justify the high cost of the oil changing it after 10k, but if it's going to be $20 a quart in the future I may just start changing the filter at 10k and adding a little oil to run it out to 20k.

All my washers and o-ring were in good shape so I saved the new ones for next time and just reused the old washers. I see everyone has a slightly different way of doing things, there are many right ways and they all sound fine. I dumped in 5 quarts, started it until the oil light went out and then dumped in the last half quart. A finger dipped into the used oil pan and smeared on the filter works fine for me, it's what I've always done. If you feel better with new oil or grease, that's okay.... whatever makes you feel confident the jobs done well.

Hellfire, we could of done it together and have some beers why didn't you come over:confused: I got my oil for $7.47 on spring special i better go stock up.
I can't beleave the oil will go up that much its crazy then again the gas here as gone $3.75 a gallon and Toronto is working out to be $6.00 a gallon what is this world comming too:mad: I'm going to need to trade my rocket in for a Scooters I wounder if I can get a even trade for a new one:rolleyes:

ok I'm stuck I am just about to do my oil change and I took my new torque wrench out I need to torque it 25 newton meters or 18.4 FT Ibs.
Now looking at my torque wrench pounds goes 120, 240,360,480,600,720,840, 960.
M. KGS or M. KPS starts off 1.4, 2.8, 4.2, 5.5, 6.9, 8.3, 9.7 ,11.1
This might seem stupid and maybe it is but I have no idea what one to safely put it on please help.
I just don't want to screw up the thread:(

Is your torque wrench calibrated in FT LBS or INCH LBS ?

If it's FT LBS and it starts at 120 FT LBS take it back for a refund DO NOT USE it for this job.

If it's INCH LBS multiply 18.4 by 12 (12 inches per foot) =220.8 inch pounds.

That's not a lot of torque. You just want to keep it for leaking.

Good luck and remember it's not Rocket Science.....or maybe it is.

960 ft lbs is a lot of torque. If the handle on your torque wrench is 10 feet long you would have to apply 96 pounds of force to get there.

Oh then I'm looking at a digram and it looks like there is a oil nut just under the filter and another one just underneith the bootom of the motor below the oile filer and another oil nut at the back of the engine.
But mine shows just one below the oil filter and another one at the back or engine and another about eight inches away on the same back of the engine.
Is every moter different? were the three oil plugs is? I hope these are the oil plugs:D
