I'm embarrassed to say that I've never done an oil change on my 07 Classic because I've always had my dealer do it. I decided this was ridiculous and so got the three needed washers ( one large and two smaller ), an O ring and new filter.
The shop manual explains about removing the oil tank plug and both front and rear sump plugs but does not mention an O ring. Which of these three plugs requires the new O ring? it only fits into the smaller washers. Does the orientation of the crush washers matter?
Also, I don't have the "tool" to remove and tighten the filter. Do I really need this? Is hand tight sufficient?
Sorry for the ignorance.

Can't help you with the o ring but as far fitting of the oil filter I've only ever tightened it by hand and it has never leaked

Jim is gunna come along here soon and turn this thread into something totally irrelevant with a comment like that

judging by some of his earlier posts i reckon he may now be sleeping

Just ordered a couple of the K&Ns. Looks easy on, easy off. Thanks!

I checked with the local triumph dealer about the o ring his response simply was that he had never sold one

If the dealer replaced the last one,its unlikely it will be hand tight,so ypou will need something to remove it with. I bought a small filter wrench for $5 the other week at the local auto parts store.
The filter is the same as many other bikes, particuarly Hondas and Kwakas and some filters ,like the K&N oil filter have a hex molded into the filter so you can remove it with a open end spanner(box wrench to the americanos) next time.

But like the other guys,I do mine handtight.
