Hey everybody,

Just changed the oil in my 07 classic. How often do you change oil in these bikes. I'm using full synth, but my manual says 10k miles....just can hardly believe that!

What say you?

Also, I used an EMGO microglass oil filter and I can tell by how hard the cover went on, it's not coming off easily. Anything I can do putting it on to make it come off easier. I really thought this EMGO was the right size.

Thanks,
Bill Montgomery

Just like the manual says...10K miles or 16K kilometers...it is synthetic. A semi synthetic blend comes with the bike when it is new, once you change that out at around the 500 (800 km) to 600 (960 km) mile mark then you do the 10K intervals.

If you change it any sooner than that...you like wasting your money (the oil isn't cheap) or you just want to baby it...nothing necessarily wrong with that but it is unnecessary.

There are one or two caveats on that. If you really "abuse" your bike (lots of high speed riding or using it as a dirt bike...you should change it more. Also if you don't put over 6,000 to 8,000 miles per year on your Rocket you may want to change it more often than the recommended 10K interval...again your choice.

Do what floats your boat.

I have talked to the AMOIL representative and he said the same thing that the manual did so I change every 10,000 I learned when I worked for the CSX railroad if the viscosity is good you're okay we always take oil samples and send them to the lab on locomotives they would call us up and tell us to drain a hundred gallons and re-feel the engine holds 250 that would bring the viscosity back up to tolerance and they ran 24 hours a day seven days a week and did not use synthetic oil just standard 15 W 40 diesel oil with tracers for tracking where in the motor

if it has been on there for a while you can get a rubber filter wrench and twisted some it just slides off and on twisting it breaks the rust and mud lose or you can wrap a rag around it and a pair of channel locks will do the same just don't squeeze too tight

Not sure how often you are meant to do it but i change mine every 8000 kilometers
not sure what that converts to in miles .
