Just purchased a 2005 RIII and noticed it has a Diagnostic Link Connector the same as on 1996 and newer cars, are these bikes OBD II compatible?

SVT, introduce yourself my friend, and i aint a clue what you are talking about , but im sure the forums scientists can help,,welcome

Haven't got a clue what an OBDII is, but I use mine to connect a Tuneboy cable, and the dealers use it to hook up their diagnostics.

Welcome to the forum, by the way. :D

It is supposed to be ODBII compatible but what exactly can you do with a generic ODBII computer is unclear. Should be safe to read sensors or get warning codes off it but the ECU is different enough from the standard auto computer that I'd be wary of trying to to anything else. Could end up corrupting the ECU so I'd rather use tools designed to work with it like Tuneboy.

On Board Diagnostics II.
SVT I am assuming from your handle that you may work at a Ford dealer and/or are very fond of Ford high performance vehicles. I'm a parts manager at an L/M dealership. OBD has been around a while and seems to be on a wide variety of vehicles. I agree with RiderRocketman & would be careful using automotive diag tools on it.
I'm sure some of the electronic gurus from here will chime in & give us the lowdown!

When did it change from SVO to SVT? I've been out of the business for a while.

Not sure Wolf.
I quit paying attention to the Ford high-performance scene when the "modular" engine series replaced the small block series years ago.
I used to sell quite a bit of Motorsports/SVO parts 15+ years ago.

OBDII

Thanks for the replies, my name is Terry and I live in the southern part of the St. Louis area. Just bought this red 2005 with 1700 miles, fly screen, roadster screen, clock, fuel guage, low rider seat, Corbin dual touring saddle w/backrest and Triumph acc. mufflers. While cleaning I noticed the data link connector was the same as on my car which is where the SVT comes from. I have a 98 Mustang Cobra that I have pumped up to a little over 500hp. Was hoping I would be able to retrieve codes with my scanner, if needed, not do any tuning.
